Ran into a bit of a problem this morning while installing the Skid Row transfer case skid on the KJ: the final bolt being installed - one of the self-tappers that screws into the frame rail - decided that rather than creating a thread in the metal as it should would just smooth the hole out completely.

There's no good way to get a nut onto the shaft of a bolt at that location, so I figure the next best thing is going to be to pick up the threaded rivet inserts used for the OEM skidplate and use them instead. The 2005 KJ parts fiche is giving a part number of 06505294AA for these (I'll need two), but the part is showing as unavailable from the usual suspects.

Does anyone know if these were superseded by another part number, or if there's one that's still available that can be substituted?

Someone posted a link to these nutzerts a while ago and I bookmarked it for future reference. They could be an alternative to the discontinued OEM nutzerts.

Well... darn :D Wish I'd run across that before starting in on this; it would've made the install easier. Going to keep that in mind if I can't track down a couple at the dealer today. It's one of those things where I'd rather not risk it flapping around; my confidence in the one self-tapping bolt that worked is significantly lessened after having seen what the other one did. Thanks for the heads-up!

Just to clarify: were you installing a 05+ transfer case skid plate on a 02-04 kJ? If so, can you take a few pics of the install and modification? This is on my next to-do list right after adding a rear locker. Thanks!

Nope - I was installing Skid Row skidplates on an '05. As far as I can tell, their skidplates are not year-dependent.

Ok, but I assume since the 05+ and kk chassis are nearly identical that of the early kJ that the 05+ oem transfer case slider should fit fairly easily on the early kJ.

Anyone confirmed?
