Post subject:  Vibration after installation of new springs and shocks
I had new springs and Bilstein shocks installed on my 2006 Liberty CRD, front and rear. First road test showed a severe vibration after 80 kph that was not there before the work was started. Rebalanced all the tires with no improvement. Inspected the front end and found no issues. Vibration appearance is a mystery. Old shocks and springs were the original equipment from new. New ones raised the Liberty quite a bit and is it possible the change in geometry in the front end is contributing to the vibration that is not easily diagnosed? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Does the vibration seem to come from the front or rear, or can you tell? Knowing the general area from where the vibration emanates from might help in diagnosing issue.

Some items you can check:
Check both rear driveshaft U-joints closely to make sure they move / flex freely. You will have to disconnect rear driveshaft connection point and remove driveshaft to properly test both of them.
Remember, when you lift a vehicle you are changing the driveshaft to transfer case output shaft angle and the driveshaft to differential pinion shaft angle.
Some U-joints can get set in a small amount of movement at a certain angle and when you lift it can put them outside of what they have been accustomed to and can cause a vibration.
If this is the case, simply replace both U-joints.

also
check front driveshaft CV joints for any excess movement along with both front inner and outer CV joints drive axles since you have changed the angles on all of them by lifting the vehicle.

Normally just lifting a vehicle 2- 2.5 inches should not cause any vibrations. :shock:
Was there any tire work involved, new or rotation?

The vibration is coming from the front end. Steering wheel shake is very noticeable.

Tire rotation was done after job was completed and prior to rebalancing. The vibration occurred on the first road test. All tires were electronically rebalanced and installed in the same locations on the vehicle with no improvement. Tires were then restored to original locations and retested and still no improvement.

I will say although the tires were new last fall, tire wear was uneven at the edge of the tread on the fronts at first rotation after about 10,000 kms and cause a loud growl. 10,000 kms were put on the tires after the rotation with the poorly worn tires on the rear and the suspension was adjusted to the best it could be with the old springs.

Thank you for the suggestions to check. It will be back in the shop on Monday.

Based on what you have said I would suspect tire issues
Put the spare in the front and try it on each side and see if problem is solved

Check tie rods / inner and outer, and check all lca bushings. Also get an alignment - if your toe is off (from the lift) the front end will get squirrelly

How many miles are on your Jeep?

If your CV joints have worn in a particular angle of deflection for many (highway) miles, and your new springs have them partially operating in a new (unworn) angle of deflection, the operation would not be smooth, but have an area of acceleration/deceleration every rotation. It's possible that the vibration would be felt slightly differently when under acceleration vs coasting.

If you changed the trim height of the vehicle with these new additions then you may have created a 2nd order drive line vibration. They occur at one speed primarily and can feel as if the steering wheel is really vibrating. It will feel almost buzzing because being 2nd order the vibration happens twice per rotation event unlike 1st order such as unbalanced tires, toe alignment issues...

I'm told that the issues was a piece of debris behind the wheel brake disk. Once removed, vibration was virtually eliminated but there is still some mild vibration at the steering wheel occurring and it comes and goes, not continuous. Tires are cupped at the edges and are noisy. I am thinking that changing tires will bring it back to normal.
