Ok, so I am finally thinking about lifting my Sport. Can't afford an aftermarket kit and I'm really not looking for an incredible amount of lift, so I figured I would do the clevis lift in the front and some spacers in the back.

Now the question: for those who have performed the clevis lift, especially those who have put a good deal of milage on it, how is the lift holding up? Any niggling little complaints? I've read the other posts about performing the lift and most don't seem to have any problems, but I am curious about long-term reports.

Thanks all!

I ran some clevis lift for the longest time. Not one single problem. If you tighted in down to the proper amount it will not slip.

my upper ball joints were toast at 35K....Had the daystar..then the frankenlift ..each with some clevis to even things out. I don't know the effect of having the clevis did anything to wear the upper ball joints out, but they did non the less.

Good luck and keep an eye on both your upper and lower ball joints. 8)

For a stock KJ you will be fine. Just make sure you don't do so much clevis lift that the upper ball joints contact the springs on droop (but that would probably mean moving the clevis down about 3/4" which is really quite a bit)

What kind of spacers will you be using in the back? I'm thinking about doing the clevis lift in mine too. Please keep us posted on your lift adventure.

There was a post in another thread (I think by the1jferg) about possibly using mudflaps, just cutting them to the same size as the rubber spring spacer on the bottom of the stock suspension. I was thinking I might go that route, or maybe cut one and make a spacer out of plywood or MDF to sandwich between the spacer and the cut mudflap. I'll have to give it some thought but I'm not planning on doing this for at least a month.

Been running with a clevis lift for about 3 1/2 years & 65,000 miles. No problems to date. Dealer replaced the lower ball joints under service bulletin even though I did not have any probs with them.

I guess I am the only one but my clevas lift would not hold with Rusty's lift. It kept slipping back down on one side or the other after wheeling. I torqued it to specs too. Oh well, it is probalby better for my joints that I leave it where it should be.

I am going to do a lift like this too. Probably this weekend, the only question I have left from what I have read from old post is that it was unclear as to what size conduit nuts to use. Can anyone clear this up for me?

I ran a 1/2" clevis lift for a little while with no problems at all. No slipage, but only one off-road trail. I had read here that 3/8" was the maximum 'safe' clevis adjustment because after that you began clamping on thin air, which is true. But I went for 1/2" anyway as an experiment. It held fine.

Before going to 1/2" I tested some rough driving on a 1/8" lift just to see if I could get it to slip (speed bumps, and another off road trail).

Be aware that the 'conduit nut' trick only works with aftermarket struts, not stock struts. The stock strut has too small an upper ridge to hold the nut. Some wise early posts state this, and that's exactly what I found when I checked into it myself.

I took out the clevis lift when I eventually moved to OME struts/springs.

Depends on the size of the tire.

The moabs fit just fine, but I wouldnt want over a 29.5in tire.

Well the tire size would be a 245/75/16.

I added 3/8" clevis when I installed my Rusty's full suspension lift. The only time it moved was when the dealer put it back to stock on me! I put it back to 3/8" where it's been ever since. 22k miles since and fine.
