My lift has been on for 12 years, and the old girl is bucking like a rocking horse. I'm can't afford to replace with Ranchos right now. What fits inside the OME springs? I'm planning on getting a spring compressor and switching out the cartridge inside.

Thanks, but too late. Already ordered some Gabriels. 10 years ago, wouldn't have settled for less than the OMEs or Ranchos, but 230,000 and quite a bit of rust make me less willing to spend too much on her at the moment. 15 years of Michigan winters have NOT been kind to the old girl.

Ranchos aren't what they used to be, according to those who used them up to a couple years ago.

Gabriels are what I used, and I'm quite happy with them. I stumbled on some really good deals a while back, otherwise I would have kept saving up for OMEs.

Don't use one of the "hook and thread-bar" spring compressors. In their assembled form, the front springs are wrapped far too closely to get the hooks in and out.

Take them to a shop with the right equipment, something wall or pole mounted, and is willing to assemble components that you didn't buy from them.

Not trying to be bossy, just trying to keep a fellow Jeeper intact. :frankie: :dead:

Thanks for the heads up - I'll find a shop to take 'em apart and put 'em back together again. I was concerned about how tight the springs were wound, I guess that answers the question.
