Confirmed via email to jba, steel d30 ifs housing no longer provided due to low volume sales. Sad day indeed.
But question still remains, why does a locker cause more stress than an open diff, especially while off-roading?
Good question, but we know it's not the locker that is the problem, it's the weak aluminum housing that does not handle the additional strain that can be a problem.
When turning with larger tires and a locker it can bind up due to the different travel rotational speed of inside versus outside tires that can cause additional stress levels in the critical bearing areas?
The inside and outside tires are basically fighting each other for dominance and the differential housing gets the blunt of the twisting force.
Some just recommend a simple LS up front for a daily driver if you want a little more traction.
This is a good writeup on putting a locker in a IFS:>
