Brake bleeding

Post subject:  Brake bleeding
I replaced the rear calipers and used a pneumatic fluid bleeder to drain the oil fluid and remove any trapped air.

I'm still getting a spongy pedal.

How much fluid does it take to clear the system.

I didn't allow the master cylinder tank to run dry.

About a half a pint should be more than sufficient.
Did you bleed the fronts?
Have you tried bleeding them with someone pumping up the pedal and then letting you bleed it down at the caliper?

Also, you did install the calipers on the *correct sides? Bleed valves should be at the top of the housings.
(*don't laugh, I actually saw a mechanic do this on some front calipers years ago when I was a Shop Foreman and they will never bleed out properly)

I replaced rear only. Bleeders are on top. I'm using the pneumatic bleeder only.

Do I need to bleed the front even when I didn't open that system?

I'm wrong. They are installed wrong. There's an air pockets in the chamber? After I read your post I went and looked. :banghead:
I'm always taking a photo of areas I'm unsure of. I didn't take one here.

If your bleeder is on the bottom, there is no way for the air to get out, as it's above the fluid level.
Bleeders have to be on top for the fluid to push it out and replace it.

Yep, you had them on the wrong sides! :ROTFL:
Bleeder valves HAVE to be at the top to get the air out! :D

No worries, it's 8).

Many of us work on our vehicles evenings and weekends when we're :dead: tired or :5SHOTS: or both, and discovered some overlooked SOMETHING important that was forgotten, that :goink: at us and required tearing it apart again :banghead: and doing the job all over. :dizzy:.
Sometimes it ends up increasing our :furious: vocabulary, and perhaps even increases the world-wide historical index, and resurrects :frankie: ones long past dead.

Just stick with it and you'll be :JEEPIN: again in no time :!:
