I was reading an old post about rear bumpers and was wondering, is there a place to get rear bumpers anymore? I have a 2006 KJ CRD Limited.

I will be wanting one also sometime. Not sure if it will be a full custom deal or if something else can work or be modified.

Here is one I’ve seen online. I can’t tell you any details as I’ve not seen one in person.

Too blumpy and I’d never want to obstruct the glass opening that clears the tire. Too useful.

That's an expensive bumper by the time you add a few options to it, and the extra $300 for the tyre carrier is pretty much a requirement on a KJ.

What I'm not keen on is that it'll create a double swing-out at the rear - the tailgate to the left, the tyre carrier to the right. Granted, that's pretty much unavoidable on a KJ if you go with external tyre storage (roof racks being the exception), but that makes access to the cargo area even less convenient.

Not the nicest looking bumper, but I haven't found anything else at all. Well, unless someone might do a total custom fabrication, but I can't imagine that would be any less expensive.

A while back, for $69, I bought a spare tire mount extension that bumps the spare up and out a bit. I have a 265/70/16 mounted on it and the back window opens with more than an inch of clearance over the tire. Not sure I'd need the swing-away mount Wam is selling. I do have a swing away bike rack that mounts into my existing trailer hitch. It swings out the same direction as the tailgate and is really handy when you want to access the rear without unloading the bikes.

Agreed. I think the tire swing out is one of those “off roady sparkle” mods that only serves to make life harder. I love being able to run the glass open for carrying long stuff. Maybe you could still do that by opening glass first then close tire but meh, I prefer to keep tire where it is on the gate.

I wonder if it's strong enough to be a lift point for the hi-lift and if the towing receiver is as strong as the factory one, or better. And, does it tow as stable as the factory one. I really like the fact that we could ditch the factory tow set up

Yes, sadly, the bumpers on our KJs are one of the problem areas.
When I bought my 2005 new I had hoped that there would be a large selection
of after market upgrades to bolt on like other Jeep models have.
