Post subject:  AC Question

Hi,

After driving for some distance I open the hood of the engine compartment and by chance I tough the aluminum pipes above the radiator and one pipe was very cold and the other very hot. I was not using the AC at all during driving but I think that this indicates that the AC compressor was working. Is this normal for the AC compressor to work all times. The indication light of the AC was off.

thank you

If the HVAC is set to defrost, the A/C will run occasionally but the A/C light will not turn on. This is both to help with clearing the windows as well as keeping the compressor lubricated over the Winter when it typically isn't used regularly.

If you weren't trying to defrost the windows... Good question

Need to know what setting you had the controls on. Turn them OFF and see if the a/c runs then.

The AC compressor will engage (run) when the HVAC selection mode switch is placed in any of the mix to defrost positions.
The AC Compressor indicator light does not illuminate in some of the modes even though the compressor clutch is engaged.

Some like myself, have disabled this function where it will only run when the HVAC switch is placed in one of the two AC cool positions.

Thank you all for the assistance. If I understood well, then the election is on the two right positions, then the AC will work without indicating anything. I will try to cut the wires to be clear when is working and when not working. Thank you all again.

Cannot tell you for sure since mine has been modified.
 But a simple test will tell you real quick:
place the HVAC mode switch in each of the 6 positions one at a time and check to see if the AC compressor clutch is engaged or not, then you will know which of the 6 mode positions the AC compressor is in operation. :D

How i can see/check if the AC compressor is engaged, I can see something moving? the engine must be running or is not necessary to be running?
