Hi all,
I have a 2006 Liberty KJ 2.8lt CRD with a 5 speed transmission.

I do a bit of towing and would like to monitor the transmission temperature

Have you got a suggestions how I could do that

Any help would be great

Thanks Rob

I plan on monitoring mine as well. I was just looking at gauges today. I plan on building my own gauge at Speedhut.com. As far as I know, I think a person needs to put a bung in the pan for a temp sensor. I have been waiting to change my trans fluid/filter till I ordered a gauge since I will have the pan off. Hope that helps.

FYI, GlowShift makes some real nice gauges and their prices are not to bad. I have several of them and love'em. see picture 1 below.
There are some aftermarket pans available for the 545RFE transmission that already are taped and threaded for a temperature sensor and a drain plug. see picture 2 below.
Some of the aftermarket pans also increase fluid capacity and have cooling fins which helps greatly to improve fluid cooling and promote lower operating temperatures. If you want more info, let me know.

I like the look of those Glowshift gauges. I will check them out.

How much does that pan hang down? That looks like a perfect solution. Did you have the gauge before the pan? Just wondering how much of a difference you saw.

Deep sump oil pan added a little bit over 2 inches lower than stock OEM pan. I dropped my home engineered skid pan 3 inches to provide clearance.

And yes, I had a gauge before adding the deep sump oil pan. Was getting temperature measurement from a "TEE" block I installed in the fluid cooling line going to the fluid cooler up front. By adding the deep sump oil pan it allowed me to order a second temperatuer sensor and put it in the PML pan. I then added a SPDT switch which allows me to switch between the two different sensors/locations and compare temperatueres.
So far in our hot high humitidy South where I have seen some high 90's with humidity above 90%, the transmission fluid temperature has been 30-40 degrees cooler than before deep sump oil pan addition. Keep in mind, with the deep sump oil pan, it required an additional 5 qts. of ATF+4 to get the level up above the full mark.
