My 05 CRD has over 200k and has developed an intermittent squealing noise when making hard right turns coming from the back of the rig. I took it to a local brake shop who replaced the rotors and parking brake pads (which I never use the p brake but one fell apart apparently). Brought it home and it's still doing it. I drive about 20 miles a day on gravel roads so the old girl gets a lot of abuse. I had all my diff fluids changed at the local Dodge dealership about 40k ago. I pulled it in the garage and put it up on stands and pulled the wheels. Drive shaft and pinion all seem tight but the wheel bearings seem to have play in them both up and down and in and out. It's not much but it makes me concerned. There are no seal leaks (yet) but I did pull a bunch of gravel dust out of the wheels and brake area.

Any idea on the squealing and what is the tolerances for the wheel bearings?

There should be almost no up and down play in rear axle bearings. If you detect more than a couple of thousands, it may be time for some new axle bearing and seals. Do you see any signs of anything rubbing on one of the rotors, i.e. shiny spots, etc...

I don't have the originals but the new ones don't show anything. Are the factory rear rotors vented?

No, the OEM rotors are solid.
