Post subject:  2.8 crd crankshaft position sensor heatshield

Hi all,

I have just fitted a new CPS to my recently acquired 2005 Cherokee (I'm in North Wales, UK) KJ crd 2.8 ltd.

This appears to have cured my "stalling when warmed up" issue. Thanks to Lost Jeeps for guiding me thus far.

My KJ didn't have a heatshield for the crankshaft position sensor.

Is a heatshield essential, or can I get by without one?

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks,

Dafydd

I would advise you to order or make one and install it, they help protect the CPS from the heat of the exhaust down pipe.

It should look like this:

Thanks for your speedy response.

It's a shame it's in such an inaccessible position on the vehicle. I'm loth to spend £££/$$$ on eBay.

If it's mainly to prevent radiant heat I'm thinking a re-formed 500ml aluminium (or aluminum!) beer can might work!

Can you tell me what the bolt sizes are?

Cheers,

Dafydd

Best I remember, they are 6x1.00mm about 10 or 12mm long.
The shield could be built out of any aluminum sheet metal, but you should insulate it some how.
