Hi all, I picked up a 2005 2.8 CRD eBay buy last night and drove it 4 hours home from Manchester to Fife (UK) and I'm a bit concerned about it. Its making quite a loud droning / whining noise while on steady throttle and gets a lot louder when braking or slowing down off throttle. The jeep has a 2.5" OME lift kit installed so at first I thought it might be the front propshaft c.v.
I pulled the propshaft off this morning and its absolutely fine and the noise is still there when driving without the propshaft.

From what im reading on various forums it sounds like front hubs / bearings. Does this sound about right?

Hello All, I would be interested in hearing some thoughts on this post. Our 05 Liberty crd has just started to have a bit of a "droning" when up to speeds of 30+mph. It also seems to be originating on the drivers side front and at first was more noticeable when turning the wheel left. Thought it was the new Blizzak tires as it was noticed shortly after getting the winter tires. Will be looking into it and wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to areas to check.

Thanks for any guidance.

If the noise gets louder (more intense) as speed increases, it is more likely a bad tire, or the wheel hub bearing is failing.
Try swapping the left front tire with one of the rear ones and see if the noise moves to the rear.
If the noise does not move, you probably got a bad wheel/hub bearing on the left front.
If one hub bearing has failed, it is best to go ahead and replace both of them in pairs.
