Post subject: | A Shock-Only Lift? |
I apologize if I get repetitive with these questions, but I'm trying to do as much research as possible before I make an investment... and this group seems to be the best knowledge base for KJs on the internet. I spoke with the parts guy at the stealership... he said I could not replace '05 coils with the pre-lowered '02 coils... Jeep apparently re-worked the entire suspension since then. He suggested going with a 1"-1.5" lift using ONLY replacement shocks, mentioning Rancho, OME, Skyjacker, etc. He said I could just get some HD shocks which would lift me an inch or more while keeping the stock coils. Is this even possible? Don't you need new coils for a lift? Any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks. |

Changing the strut or shock will not gain you any lift,it will only change the repound and jounce of the spring. You must change the spring to a longer one or add a spacer to get lift(also a clevis lift will net a small lift in the front of the KJ).Hope this helps, who ever told that the shock or strut will give you more lift is jerking your chain(the only shocks that will give you lift is air shocks). |

tjkj2002 is 100% correct on this. The shock only keeps the jeep from bouncing, it holds no weight what so ever. The ome lift is the smallest spring lift out there, which is what I have and Im thinking of going bigger. 1.5in front and 2in rear. |

Thanks... that's what I thought. Is it true that the '02 coils will not fit on an '05? |

Like they said before shocks/struts will NOT cause lift. Please go back and rub it in the parts guys face. Where in NJ are you located? |

From what I understand the '02 coils should net you 3/4" lift, not positive they fit,I don't think they changed the whole set up between the years just shorter coils.I would make sure, maybe somebody in this forum has done it allready I'm not sure.I'm not saying do it,the daystar 1.5" lift front and 2" rear would be a good choice I think, small lift and room for better tires and more clearance, just my 2 cents though. |
