After ordering my BFG Mud Terrains a few days ago, i am looking at my next mod. I have been toying with the idea of an ARB Bumper and i am not sure if it will work well on a stock set up... also how bad is the installation if it is possible on a stock KJ with no lift.

If this will not work on stock, i would like to look into a westin sportsman grille guard, any info on that as well?

Thanks in advance for any input

There was someone on here who I believe put one on an 04 without a lift, as far as i remember, it worked, but it made the front suspension sag because of the additional weight.

you will sag pretty bad. Maybe look into something smaller, or possibly get HD springs for the front.

I am down 1/2" because of my ARB.

Iceman: What are your goals for the KJ?

What do you currently have (for mods) on your KJ?

If you plan to do a fair amount of off-roading, you should look into other mods first.
If you plan to spend your time just looking good on the road, then the bumper is a good choice (but get the HD struts first) but don't expect to do anything moderate to hard core (in KJ terms) with none of the other mods...and not expect damage.

The forum has a lot of great info on what mods to go with first, if you plan to hit the trails. Not all are needed but, the day you think you can do an obstacle or hill, and you try it, will be the day you don't have the needed protection (that reoccurring KJ video breaking on a small hill, is a great example).

Some important mods, in no particular order, for hitting the trail: rails/sliders/bars, skids, lift, hitch/recovery points.

I have only owned my kj for about a month, and i'm just getting started with my list of mods... So far everything to date has been cosmetic, with the exception of tires. I currently have a tow hitch, and front hooks. I am just trying to look a little ways down the raod to see what my best option is... i don't really want to lift my kj as of right now... I have my XJ for the more severe off road stuff.

If you dont want to take it off-road and are looking for looks, I would do a cleavis lift and get the ARB bumper. You could also find someone selling CRD coils and buy those.

Whats the point of spending $800 on a bumper if its not going off-road? Buy it for me since I take mine off-road!!

haha yeah seriously!

Why is it that your arb sits so high on your grill? If I recall correctly all of the other KJ's I've seen before have sat at least a few inches below the headlight openings on the grill. Would that have something to do with it not being lifted for some odd reason?

When your putting the ARB on the 05+ models you can actually adjust it slightly up and down. I put mine like that just so it didnt leave a major gap between the bumper and the fender.
