so, are they worth bothering with during my xmas visit? My mom heard I wanted to visit Sedona on our trip out there next month and said she would buy but I would rather have my own Jeep to tour in, etc. so I will probably ask her to not bother. (considering the prices I am seeing, don't look worth it to me)

So, BTW, Looks like I will be there w/ a Jeep, just looking for super easy run or backwoods tour of the Sedona area. Anyone know of a Jeep rental place near there?

Yeah I know, flakey JJ as usual..... anyone want to show me around Sedona?

Unless you're interested in the history or local lore and info I'd say give the Pink Jeeps a pass. I've only run Broken Arrow and Schnebly Hill but I'd be up for showing you around. I'm sure we could find some other trails to do as BA is only an hour or so (super short, not very technical); Schnebly Hill will most likely be closed that time of year. I know there are lots of other trails in the area and most are not very long, guess I need to dig out my Wells book and start looking.

What i am working on is getting my parents to rent a JK from a local rental place so we can all go out wheeling since they have never experienced it before. Hopefully that will shake out but regardless, the plan right now is to go to Sedona to check out the area regardless of what I drive there though teh KJ is most likely what we wil show up in.

If you still need to, rent from Nena at the Sedona Jeep School

http://www.sedonajeepschool.com/

I'm still up for a run with ya'll. Still the 27th/28th?

Don't do a tour, AZLOST will give you the grand tour free of charge. Any level of trail is available, you name it!
Let us know a date and we'll schedule it

Dec. 27th, Sedona Area. looking for 4-6 hours or so on the trail.
Starting at 10:00 AM-ish, ending at 4:00 PM-ish. (We plan on being back in Sedona that afternoon/evening for dinner w/ my family.)

Trying my darndest to get my parents and sister out on a trail. Looking for Easy to low moderate so they don't freak out. The more scenic for that area the beter. Really would like to see Indian ruins, etc. too if possible.

I will be going to Sedona on the 27th regardless so anyone that wants to come on out and show me around is welcome and I appreciate it.

John

Okay... how about Broken Arrow (Wells #23 - 2 hr) and one or two of the following...

- Soldier Pass (Devil's Kitchen and the 7 Apache Pools) (Wells #18 - 1 hr)
- Van Deren Cabin (Wells #19 - 1 hr)

If anyone is interested, I'll post up a run for Dec 27th in a different thread.

Each vehicle needs to purchase a $5.00 Red Rock Pass. I suggest we meet at 0930 at the Ranger Station in Oak Creek Village and get them. We'll leave for Broken Arrow at 1000.

Sounds good but can we shoot for a 10am meeting time. I have to get a bunch of people on the road for that morning from Sun City West/Surprise and an extra half hour would help get us there on time and into a rental Jeep, get the passes, etc.

Thanks for organizing something, the trail list sounds cool to me. Just wanna wheel in AZ!! 8)

You're more than welcome, any chance to get out on the trails is always a good thing.

I just re-read your posts above... there are no Indian ruins in the immidiate area, but if you're driving home the next day, you can stop at Montezuma's Castle in Camp Verde.

Just a small warning before I post this run in another thread...

...both Broken Arrow and Soldier Pass are very scenic but rated "Difficult" in the Wells book due to some rock ledges and the infamous "Steps" on Broken Arrow (which can be bypassed). He goes on to say that, "many stock high clearance SUV's can make it". I've driven them in a stock height Wrangler with minor scraping. IMO the "Difficult" rating is over rated and anyone with off road experience will have no problem in a rental jeep.

With that said, let me know if you want me to post up the run meeting at 1000 with a 1030 rollout.

Kevin... are you still up for this? Anyone else?

Update: I just got off the phone with Nena at the Sedona Jeep School... Jeep rental is through Farabee's (877) 970- JEEP.

- they rent Rubicon's w/2" lift and 32" MTR's
- they have "some" 4 door Rubi's
- normal rental is... $265.00, BUT she will give you a LOST club rate of $195.00 (if you do rent from them, tell them AJ spoke with Nena and she authorized the reduced rate, or better yet, call Nena yourself and mention my conversation with her).
- the 27th is a very busy day and Nena suggest you make your reservation now, espicially if you want a four door Rubi.

Send a me a PM if you need more info....

AJ and Beth

Sedona would be my first choice, but for an alternate:

We ran Mingus Mountain/413 to Jerome as the stocker run back in January at FITS. It's way scenic. Plus you end up in Jerome to grab a snack before heading home. (sponsored by the Jerome Chamber of Commerce)

Sorry if I jumped to the head of the line with my post above. Just wated to get things rolling since this was originally brought up last Sunday and nothing but Kevin's and my suggestions have been posted. Also, time is getting short if JJ wants to rent a Jeep from Nena and at a discounted Club price.

phxtoad... you bring up a good point, but something else to think about is the time restraint of 1000~1600. Wouldn't it be kind of tough to do what we did at FITS in that time frame, considering JJ has to rent the Jeep and travel to the trail head from Sedona? Also, IMO if we did the run up Mingus, meeting in Sedona would be out of the way for those of us traveling up from Phoenix, no?

Just a thought or two... we'll be there for whatever is posted. Let's just get things firmed up and a run planned so people can make plans and decide where to meet.

AZKJ - good points. The timing could still work out though as an alternate. At FITS we were on Mingus from about 10am till 2pm before finally hitting Jerome. Add 45 minutes each way to/from Sedona... It's tight!

I'd rather get red mud on my tires, anyway! :D

I'm in!
Plenty of trails in the area to check out. There are some ruins in the west canyons area off forest roads we could check out. We can firm up the plans as we get closer. Got the 27th reserved. See everybody in sedona

Are you refering to "Tuzigoot", near Clarkdale? Been there, not that impressive if you want my opinion.

Okay then, you post up whatever you want to run, but I would like to see the details posted sooner rather than later so we can make plans to attend or not. For the record, I'm down for some trail time, not hiking to ruins, especially when time is limited.

AJ

1000 am would be best start time for me and Sedona is my destination. I will be there no matter what, just still trying to convince my parents to go w/ me. My sister and her friend will most likely be there too, possibly in a stock full size 4x4 truck.....if it will be ok on these trails?
