Thx Vern, I'm sure I'll be able to get it open one way or another. If you are talking about the 'AZ Backroads and 4WD trails' book I have that one as well (just dont have it with me).

Update: thanks to all-around good guy Vern I now have a set of GPS coordinates for the route out to the coke ovens from martinez canyon road. As long as there is someone to spot me thru the rough spots I'll be happy to lead this run. Now lets figure out a date. If anyone wants a copy of the waypoints just let me know what unit/software you have. I can also provide Google Earth files for those with that software.

So, anyone up for a run this weekend? I'll be available sunday for sure, should know tonight if I am scheduled for Saturday. If not think I'll go out to the Rolls/Sycamore Creek area.

EDIT: Aw, crackers. Never mind; seems I have to work both days this weekend. Question: if I have to work both days should I even call it a 'weekend'?

So we kicked this around last month and couldn't get anything to gel but I'm willing to try again. If anyone is open to it I am planning on trying for the Coke Ovens over the long 4th of July weekend - I have off the weekend plus both Monday and Tuesday. Lets see if we can get a crew together for this one.

No problem on the map, but I don't think I got the e-mail. PM me and let me know what address you used, there may have been something off in it. I'm ready to do this one, in fact I was talking to a friend at work who is interested in tagging along. He's got a 4x4 Toy so he should be able to keep up, although we may have to help him thru a couple of spots :P

Lets try for Sunday. The rumor mill at work is saying that we may have to work that Saturday so it would be best to not plan anything for that day. Anyone else on board with us? MikeD0106, Dynamike, FUNNMUD, SethX9, Roachman???

Travis, got the file. Thx.

Well... I am now off on Sat. Still not sure about Sun though. I don't think I'll have to work during the day so give me a time and I'm sure I can make it.

Umm, if space is available then I would like to reserve a seat in one of the libby's headen that way. Unless you guys tell me a 4x2 will make it. :D

I haven't run the trail yet but Vern, Dynamike or one of the other who went in November should be able to tell you. I may have some people riding with me so I'm not sure if I'll have room.

OK, here ya go:

Sunday, July 2nd, 8 am. Let's meet at the Cottonwood Canyon Rd. turn off of Highway 79. The GPS co-ordinates for the Cottonwood Canyon Road turnoff are N33 10.730 (N33 10' 43.8") W111 21.126 (W111 21' 07.6").

If you;re coming from Phoenix, go east on the 60 freeway until you reach Florence Junction, then turn south on 79 and go 5.2 miles to Cottonwood Canyon Rd. on your left.

If you're coming from Tucson, Go north on 77 to Oracle Junction and turn left on 79. Continue north thru Florence approximately 9 miles to Cottonwood Canyon Rd.

There is a large parking area just off 79 - look for this sign:
Image
I think there is also a tall white flagpole at the parking area as well. If anyone wants to caravan from Phoenix we can meet at the Wal-mart at Stapley and the 60 around 7am. See everyone on the 2nd 8)

8) Actually, I took that picture in September when we did the Martinez Canyon run. I remember thinking at the time that they were either real late or real early with their posting... But the artillery range is down toward Florence and shouldn't be a problem that weekend

EDIT: went to Show Low Saturday and drove by the sign off of highway 60 - it shows that the next exercise dates are the July 16-22, so we should have no problems getting out there.
