here's a thread from the last one: Nov. Coke Ovens Run

Now a few items:

Who is going to meet up at the Wal-Mart in Mesa? I'll be there around 6:45am and keep an eye out for any suspicious vehicles 8) If we can get out of there by 7:15 we'll have plenty of time to get out to the Cottonwood Canyon parking area. I may have some room for a ride-along; I'll know for sure tonight.

Next, looking at my AZ Atlas & Gazetteer the area we are going into is not within the bounds of Tonto Nat'l Forest so there aren't any restrictions in effect, but we'll still want to be sensible as to what we do on the trail.

Lastly, this event is of course subject to weather. Looking at the NWS site the forecast currently calls for a 10% chance for possible showers in the area so we should be good to go. I'll keep an eye on the site thru Saturday night and update if needed.

I think that does it. I'll be going to Superstition Springs Jeep on Friday to get my tranny and t-case skids so I can install them Saturday, so I should be ready for the real rocky stuff come Sunday :P

One thing I forgot to mention- This area requires a state land permit. They are available from the state land department. Cost is nominal. They are only available at their office or through snail mail.

And mailing an application in obviously isn't possible the Friday before the Sunday we're planning on going out so ... for those who don't know where to go to get the permit here it is.

Uh, yeah, should have mentioned that at the outset  I have mine from back in september (they are good for one year from the date of issue). You can walk into the office that Seth posted a link to and get one. Also just checked the map of state land closures - nothing in the area we will be in.

Probably half the people out there at any one time don't have permits. Just claim ignorance and tell them you'll be good next time.

PM'd ya, but for the rest here they are: take the 60 east to Stapley (about exit 182), then go south on Stapley to the next light (Inverness). The WM is sitting off behind all the restaurants (macaroni grille, etc) on your left. I'll be parked out toward the light, so keep an eye out for my red '03 with the red CB antenna on it.

On the subject of the state land permits, I have one, but I will be bringing a pasenger. Is the permit good for the vehicle or does each pasenger need one, as well?

Well looks like I am going to be a no show...I ended up having to put the old tranny back in, they shipped the wrong bell housing and said it would be about 2 weeks for the right one to arrive cause they have to wait for the one they sent me to get back to them. I hope you guys have a great time, hopefully I will be there on the next one.

Yeah, that one. I'll be parked out by the Inverness light, so if you turn off of stapley into the shopping center I'll be right there. Now I'm gonna go to the hardware store and get a couple of small items I need to make the tranny skid fit, then I'll come back and see about getting it and the t-case skid installed.

Yup! I'm leaving now..

Actually, I just checked fluids, put my reciever shackle back in, reinstalled my engine skid, and put my "dry charger" over my K&N cone. Time well spent with the Jeep.

See ya'll at the signs at 8am.

Oh yeah, bought some Moabs and fresh MT/R's today. But will get some final use out of my old tires tomorrow.

I'll be at the Wal-Mart. Don't have a choice since my 4x2 won't make it. :)

Sorry for the long delay... Been out of town & just got back in this evening. See everyone in the AM.

To the following LOST members: SethX9, Renstock, Broncsrule, Roachman3700, Lost TJ, MikeD0106, Oldhockeyvb, and all their invited guests, a very sincere thank you for making todays run such a blast! Even though there were some minor setbacks (wrong turns taken, Jeeps almost going head over heels or off hillsides, a wonky transfer case) all in all it was a great turn out for an awesome run! I'll be posting up pictures tomorrow, and I'll get the website write up done and off to Dan by the 4th. To all whose pictures I took with my 35mm camera, I will be getting the film developed later this week and I'll get a photo CD with them so I can send them out via e-mail.

Again, thanks for a SUPER run! You guys ROCK!!! 8)

Note: for those who took pictures today: if you have some you'd like in the write-up send me a PM and I'll shoot you my e-mail address. I would also be interested in any copies of picture involving yours truly (being so humble I just can't name myself in the post  )
