Tell me about this one. I'm looking for a great reason to drive to AZ to visit my folks rather than fly.

This is not the famous Walnut Canyon National Monument near Flagstaff with the cliff dwellings. This is the lesser known Walnut Canyon in the Florence area adjacent to the White Canyon Wilderness. This trip will be a preview of the Sun Run II area. This trail is an alternate route to the Coke Ovens which is a major area destination.

From the Trails.com website:
A photographer’s dream. Beautiful Sonoran Desert with towering red buttes on all sides of the trail. A fun drive offering real adventure. Hike into the nearby White Canyon Wilderness area north of the trail. Winding, rutted road with moderate climbs and descents. Narrow in a few places. Our group drove the trail following a period of torrential rains. Several places were badly washed out, which required some rock-stacking for several stock vehicles in our group. While the road is well defined most of the way, one section crosses a low sandy area along the Gila River. Rains had washed away previous tire tracks making route-finding difficult. Skid plates and high ground clearance recommended for stock vehicles. Brush may lightly touch your vehicle. Go with other vehicles in case you need help

Yeah, last weekend when I was out north of Saguaro Lake I ran into a gentleman who was roaming around out there (actually he was following me, I think he wanted to see if I knew how to get to the coves). At one point we were looking over a downhill section and he was telling me about going out thru walnut canyon to the coke ovens; I didn't know you could get there that way. Hmmm, I feel an exploratory run coming on... 8)
