First off, a few words of thanks:
1) aHUGE thank you to the Dyna-team, Mike and Tammy for putting the whole event together.
2) another HUGE thank you to Ninja Will for the awesome job as trail lead/tour guide and to Clint and Bo for helping to scout the trail.
3) a BIG tip o' the hat to Chris (Fiso) for showing up in costume :D

And now, on to the pictures...

The group gathered and ready to roll
Image

First stop, some ancient Indian ruins -
Image

Some old pottery shards
Image

A view from the past
Image

Next up a little hill climb -

Jim (broncsrule) over the top
Image

Vern (oldhockeyvb) making it look easy
Image

Clint and Bo in the tail-gunner position
Image

Later down the trail time for a stretch break
Image

Dan (Roachman3700) and Chris waiting to continue
Image

I guess they really mean it
Image

On to the first obstacle of the day -

Mike L. (signcutter21) giving it the old college try (pay no attention to the strap off the front of his Jeep)
Image

Kevin (corwyyn) up and over with the help of some judicious rock stacking
Image

Waiting for the rest to get over the rocks
Image
Image

Objects in the mirror may appear closer than they are
Image

Further down the trail we come to a rather bizarre sight, an abandoned home with a huge (I mean HUGE) pile of junk surrounding it.
Image

On to the next major obstacle. Everyone was able to make it up in one fashion or another
Image
Image
Image

Once on top it was time for lunch
Image

Skube looking for a handout
Image

all the excitement was just too much for Chris
Image

Just around the bend from the lunch stop was the last major hurdle for the trail -

Mike L. redeeming his earlier performance
Image

Vern on his way up the ledge
Image

Clint doing his new job of documentary videographer
Image

Finally Will took on the ledge. He bounced around a bit and had to try a couple of lines but in the end he was able to say 'Booyah!'
Image

Up on top of Black Mesa we were able to stop and survey the area we drove thru. If you look closely to the left of the mesa edge (right side of photo) you can *barely* make out the San Francisco peaks north of flagstaff
Image

The gang on the top of the world
Image
from the left - Clint and Bo, Dan and Jeremiah, Tom (renstock) Caitlin and Mike L., Jeanette and Jim, Chris and Chris Jr, DynaTammy and DynaMike, Vern, Travis, Will and yours truly :)

Back at the pavement, a bunch of dusty Jeeps and drivers
Image

Later on that night was the chili social and it was delicious! Again, thanks to everyone who came out and for those who couldn't make it, mark yer calendars for next year!

See you on the trail...

I am sure there will be a few more tricks by then as well. Thanks to Mike and Tammy for getting this together and all the AZ crew as well. Will...Great job on the trail leader tasks. Later...Clint

Oh yeah, it was a total blast. You HAVE to get up there next year. Here is an overview of the trail from Google Earth:
Image

total off-road mileage was about 29 miles. Took about 8 1/2 hours with lunch stop and time out to play and explore.

Hey Gang,

It was truely a pleasure spending the day with all of you, I had a great time on the trail as well as the chili feast that evening. I am glad that everyone enjoyed themselves and I will anxiously await the for the next outing.

A big thanks to Mike, Tammy, and Skube for making this happen and all of the extra work that Tammy put into the "little things" sure made it even that much more entertaining. A BIG thanks as well to all of you that took time out of your schedules to make the trip up here. We will try to plan a trip over to the "Cracks" and try to give any of you that want to join us enough lead time to plan accordingly.

Cheers...... here is to future trips.

Hey Thanks, I appreciate that. I really like it and every time I think I am done doing something to it I find something else. I guess that's the "Jeep Thing" right. It attracts alot of attention and you wouldn't believe how many old guys try to convince me they drove one like that in the war and are shocked when I tell them it is an '88' Wrangler. Again Glad you like, do you still have yours?

Heck, all they have to do is look at the headlights to know its a YJ 8) Regardless of that it still looks way cool!
