The following is a teaser for those of you coming to the Fun In The Sun Run (and those who wish you could)

Had a chance to take a buddy out to the Coke Ovens yesterday. He had been asking if I could take him out there and wondering if his stock Tacoma could make it. So yesterday morning we set off bright and early with two of his brothers and his dad along for the ride.

The first step down into the north end of Box Canyon

Quads all over the place out there

Came across a Land Cruiser and a Lexus (with a snorkel  )

Me coming down the easier part of that section

Jerry on the same part

Also met up with some members of the AZ Virtual Jeep Club who had gone out to recover a TJ that got stuck down in the Gila river. They mentioned that they were going to try crossing the river to get out so we decided to tag along.

One of the VJC guys checking the flow - he got about 50ft out and decided that it was too cold to try to wade across
Image

After some quads showed up on the other side and let us know that it was OK on that side another VJC member decided to give it a go
Image

Seeing that it wasn't so bad we all proceeded across. One of the guys riding with me took some pictures of me coming across, so as soon as I get them I'll add them to the thread. Here's one I got of the aftermath of the crossing
Image

Once we got to the paved road I stopped and disconnected the power from the relay so I wouldn't hit the driving lights and pop the bulbs. Now I just need to get out there and empty them out :P

See everyone next month!

Yeah, it was a very nice day to be out in the desert, perfect weather with temps in the low 70s. Coming down toward the first step in the canyon there was even a small spring coming out of the ground and running for about a quarter mile or so. I was also happy to be able to get across the river since I figured with the flow at Kelvin reading high it wouldn't be passable.

Looks like FITS is going to be way fun 8)

OK, finally got the pics from my buddy so here they are.

Middle of the river (this is probably where my front plate went AWOL)
Image

Almost all the way across - you can see the water in the Hellas :P
Image

And here's one of Jerry taking a slightly harder line up one obstacle on the coke ovens trail. There was a small tree at the top of this that added a battle scar to his passenger door

No, but yes. Same basic vehicle with leather & wood trim.

I'd do your Diffs, tranny, and TCase fluids. Unless you've extended the Breather lines, you were in deep enough to get some water in there.
