I'll be up for something this weekend if I don't have to work. If nothing else I may go back out to Saguaro and do some geocaching. I'll keep an eye on the posts...

I am hoping Dan will pop on and choose. Hopefully Chivo, Ovens or The Gap. :D Lets see if he does. If not where you want to go? Sunflower Mine Loop should be a nice one this time of year. Cya

Sure leave it all up to me :) what do you think I am the pres or something.

well Sat is out for me and I dont konw how feisable Sunday is.

My litter brother is celebrating his Bday and he likes to do it in grand style. He rents a limo and we bar hop and get quite plastered :)..... I have to prepare for that on sat night by getting my honey dues done for my wife and then there is the whole hangover thing the day after.

However if you guys go somewhere and I am feeling up to it I might join ya.

Later,
Dan

There's an AZVJC Box canyon run sunday we could join or I could be persuaded for a Chiva or Coke ovens run if someone knows how to get there, I've never been to the ovens.

If we are running Sunday I will try to be there - looks like I'll be working Saturday. I just got myself some new Geolanders that I want to try out :) Bethany, looking at my AZ backroads guide the Coke Ovens and some other trails are rated moderate but I think we should be fine (at least I have my engine skid to take some bumps).

If anyone is interested I have GPS co-ordinates for the Coke Ovens and could navigate us there. Here is a write up on the Coke Ovensfrom Expeditions West with pictures of the major obstacles. Looks like a fair bit of rock-crawling.

Ok. I can lead if need be, but you will have to navigate cause i'll get LOST :D Can you post up a time and meeting place for the day you want to wheel? I would, but i do not know the area and could not even begin to guess where to meet. Thanks

Beth:
I've done Box canyon bone stock before with no problems. In fact it was my first run with LOST. It's a nice run, and there are optional areas for the more aggressive folks to keep them interested.

Depending on who shows up we can take an optional coke ovens side trip or not. It appears the trail to coke ovens branches off of the box canyon trail.

This will be a long day so it'll be early.

More to come.

Sounds good, I'll be looking in for a time and place to meet. Here is my disclaimer...I have become really cautious ever since I got the new Rene, so please bear with me  I loosen up a little after time goes on and who knows, I may be fully recovered and ready to go. Labor Day weekend I got my first skid plate dent :D so that kind of helped me relax. If you get sick of me just tell me to go home :P

OK, go home - but you're Renny can stay, we'll give it a good workout for ya  Since it looks like I am doing the organization thing on this run I will go down to the State Land department tomorrow and see about getting a group permit for the run. We should probably meet at around 8am, I would suggest at either the Minit Market in Florence or the convenience store in Florence Junction. The entrance to the area that I would like to use is Cottonwood Canyon which is 5.5 miles south of Florence Junction and 10.5 miles north of Florence. I'll let the group determine where they would like to meet. The distance from the Cottonwood Canyon turnoff to the Coke Ovens is about 18 miles. I don't know about anyone else but I'll be packing a cooler with lunch fixings...

Post subject:  Box canyon meeting information

Let's meet at the intersection of cottonwood canyon road and highway 79 (Florence Highway) at 8:00 AM Sunday 9/18/05. There is a dirt parking lot area there with a park service sign board. Gas up before you get there.

I'll be on cb channel 4.

Leave the parking area by 8:30 should get us back to Florence around 4:00'ish depending on how much fun we can stand. Bring a cooler with lunch and lot's of water.

All levels of rigs can participate on this trail and it should be a beautiful day so the more the merrier!

Depending on everyone's comfort factors we'll figure out on the trail if we want to divert to Coke ovens or Martinez cabin trails. There's lot of options.

OK, I went down today and was not able to obtain a group permit - I was told processing on those takes about 60 days :? I was able to obtain an individual permit and would suggest that anyone who is able go down and do the same. I have talked to a couple of people who have been out in this area many times and they tell me that they have never been asked to provide a permit, but I feel better for having gotten one. Here are the addresses for the offices:

Phoenix Office 1616 West Adams, Phoenix, AZ 85007
(602) 364-2753

Tucson Office 177 N Church Suite 1100, Tucson, AZ 85701
(520) 209-4250

BLM AZ Public Lands Information Center
222 N Central Avenue, Suite 101
Phoenix, AZ 85004 (602) 417-9300

Cost for a one-year individual permit is $15 and I was in and out in about ten minutes. See everyone at Cottonwood Canyon Road on Sunday 8) As for lunch, Martinez Cabin looks like it has some shade trees around it for a nice picnic site :D

Beth and Travis, do ya'll wanna meet somewhere and convoy? Let me know.
