July Run - Sierra Ancha Mountains

Beth and I are putting together a run for July 12th.

The plan is to run up US 60 to Globe, turn west on Highway 188 and then go north on dirt road 288 to Young. We can go straight to the trail a few miles south of Young OR continue on to Young for a quick lunch at the Antlers Café. After lunch we’ll turn around and go back south a few miles and catch a trail the runs down the west side of the Sierra Ancha Mountains, northeast of Roosevelt Lake. The trail ends in Punkin Center. On the way home we could stop for a Mexican dinner in Globe if anyone wants to join us.

It will be a long day because of the distance to the traihead and the roughness of the trail down the mountain, Some of you may have heard me talk of this trail, which we first did in the KJ right after we bought it. No skids and street tires… it took us about four hours to go seven miles because of the rocky terrain.

I’m planning for an early start, meeting at the Shell station in Gold Canyon at 0800 and rolling out at 0830.

When: July 12
Meet: 0800
Where: Shell Station in Gold Canyon
Depart: 0830
Length: All day

I'll see if I can try and make it. Will depend on work schedule and how much the new tires will cost me...it is pencilled in though....are there good camping areas up around there? Not too familiar with the area up there...

Beth and I are not into camping, so I really can't help you out in that area. Maybe someone else can chime in....

Lot's of great camping. Can camp at roosevelt lake but it will be hot or can cruise up to payson area and camp in the pines where it's cool

Sorry you can't make it, but have fun in Texas!!! Find yourself a good 'Tex-Mex' place for some great Mexican food... it's much better than the Sonoran stuff we get here.

that's cause you're not going to the right places AJ, need to come down this way for some real mexican food.

sadly, i will not be able to make this run either. really itching to get out and play though. might head up to Ft Huachuca one of these weekends for some fun.

later,mike

Sounds interesting! and Pablo has all the spare parts and glue to keep the CRD together!

Coming from Tucson, I would go up to Globe. What time would y'all get to Globe?

I would probably camp near the lake on the way back.

EDIT .... Family voted me out. "Too far, too hot" maybe next time!

Bill

I'm a strong maybe on this. Will depend on some potential family commitments I won't know until late. If I go I'll be staying in my tent trailer at the lake friday and saturday night. I now have an RV spot at the Roosevelt lake resort wtih electricity, sewer, and water for my tent trailer

Sweet is there room for a small yellow tent at this area? I plan on camping out both nights as well.

If I make it you are welcome to stay with me in my trailer. If I don't make it or you'd rather there are tent camp spots down the road a ways

Aw man this sounds like fun - but I can't make it. My jeeplet is going in for surgery on Tuesday. Not sure what is wrong - it's drive train related and might be either engine mounts, the front prop shaft, or shredded gears. Joy!

Have fun!
