Robert... Beth and I are so glad you and your passengers were not hurt. Yeah, I'll bet you needed to change your shorts after that experience

yes it was scary. i have the replacement arms at the shop with the jeep now so tomorrow i should get it back and if that is the case i will begin my 15 hr drive back on thursday morning. it is one thing to have it happen at home and a whole other thing to have it happen 950 miles from home. i am just glad i am not stuck somewhere in west texas hiking down I10 or worse i coulda flipped it but luckily i had a good grip on the wheel when it happened and reacted properly.

I watched an early generation aftermarket arm break in Moab. However, it was a very early generation, had literally thousands of off-road miles on them, and the driver is known to test the limits of his vehicle.

I take it that they were Als arms? What generation. I bought a used set of the 4s and one of them had cracks in both welds on either side of the ball joint. Other one looked OK but??? I now have a set of the 4.5s and they look better made to me

but then what do I know

Tom

Oh and glad you made it through it all OK

Wasn't it Troy in Moab? I think that was the one I saw... I think, and yeah, very early generation if my terrible memory serves me correctly.

That would be USAFCOP that broke the JBA GENII UCA,I cracked a weld on one in the same place/same trail but one year later,GENII also.

That would be a total of 3 broken sets of GENII's,one broken set of GENIV's,and one cracked weld on a GENII that I know of.

2 of those broken JBA UCA's(GENII's) where severly abused(USAFCOP and MUTT),the GENIV JBA UCA was on SWAMPTHING's KJ that had the Rusty's coil and spacer lift on which over stressed the UCA from way to much lift.My cracked GENII UCA was found before it broke,it was well abused,I had a spare JBA UCA,the other unbroken one from MUTT.

That thing was pretty well abused, but there were others that didn't have so much lift that had broken the Gen 4s that popped up later, IIRC. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Didn't Mutt also have a failed weld on an earlier JBA A-arm? Haven't seen him on site recently but I believe he had one go out when he was wheeling.

I've personally broken two older gen Al's arms, both in the same place, front side weld to the ball joint bung, and both on the driver's side arm. I was doing nothing hardcore (coming off a curb 1st time, driving up a little hill 2nd time), but time took it's toll and both breaks showed rust on the inside of the arm around the breakage. They probably had stress fractures that I never noticed. I think Troy is taking me into account with those numbers, but I'm pretty sure this last set I broke was Gen. 3, and the first was Gen 2.
Regardless, they were <Gen 4 for sure. I've heard the Gen. 4s are better and I know personally that the Gen 4.5s look MUCH MUCH better and if they break then the Jeep is gonna get parked until I have the cash for an SFA. New daily driver=motorcycle.

Hmm good thing i'm trading my genIII's in for some gen4.5's that were just delivered and sitting on the front porch.
