Sorry for a short notice run, but hey... at least it's chance for you to get your Jeep dirty and see the back country.
Beth and I are going to do a 34 mile trail that we found in an Arizona Highways article nine years ago. We've run it three times in the past on New Years Day, or the Saturday immediately following.
The trail runs along Salt River Canyon Road and goes for a few miles along the river then it turns inland up through the mountains to the little town of Cibecue. The trail starts at the Salt River Canyon Bridge on US 60, which is 39 miles NE of the US 60/70 split in Globe.
The entire trail is on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation (no firearms allowed). A day use permit that cost $8.00 per vehicle is required. Permits can be purchased at any Sportsman's Warehouse. The trail is easy and scenic. There's one water crossing early on, the rest of the trail winds up through the mountains.
From the town of Cibicue, it is 70 miles back to the US 60/70 split in Globe. Total mileage from the US 60/70 split in Globe and back is 143 miles.
If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll post up details for a time/meeting place.
Here's a map of the area....
