Post subject: | AZ LOST Monthly Run... Jan 31 '09 |
The AZ L.O.S.T Club Officers met today in Tempe and voted to start holding scheduled monthly club runs again. The runs will be scheduled on the 3rd weekend of every month, either on a Saturday or a Sunday. The run dates will be posted three months in advance to give everyone a better chance to plan ahead so they can make arrangements to attend. Members will have a voice and can suggest what trails they would like to run. Once a trail has been selected, details will be posted in another thread firming everything up. We're almost at the end of January, so the club officers went ahead and picked a trail and scheduled a short notice run for this month. If you're intested, post up and will add you to the list. As usual, all models of Jeeps are welcome as are other capable makes of 4x4's. So, don't be bashful... who wants to get in on this??? When: 1/31/2009 Trail: Rice Peak (Wells #68) Location: Oracle/Tucson area Length: 5~6 hours (and maybe a snow run up Mt Lemmon, time permitting) Meet: Circle K (2000 W American Ave in Oracle) Time: 1000 Attendees: oldhockeyvb Signcutter21 + 1 AZKJ +1 Roachman3700 rkeegstra Renstock |

Boo, Hiss, oh Darn---- I have to scratch-- I am sincerely sorry-- Work calls - I have to cover a position a disgruntled Manager left open due to walking off job. The Company cut back his full time hours to 20 a week and it got him mad and he walked! Bad economic times are hitting hard. I am quickly submitting requested time off for every third weekend of the next few months now so I won't miss anymore events! ( I'll tell them it is for a church or something!--after all it is a type of devotion!) I am still set for 4 peaks cleanup though-- I will keep in touch!! Roland |

Meet at the Circle K at 2000 W American in Oracle at 10:00 AM Rice Peak is a very scenic run that ends at the top of the highest peak in Pinal County. There is a tremendous 360 degree view of the valley floor, Catalina Mountains and the Biosphere from the top of Rice Peak. Generally the run is pretty easy. The last climb to the top is fairly steep with lots of small loose rocks. There is a small parking area at the bottom and hike to the top if you want but stock vehicles should have no problems. Time permitting we may make a snow run to the top of Mt Lemmon up the back road http://s290.photobucket.com/albums/ll255/oldhockeyvb/rice%20peak%201-09/?action=view¤t=ricepeakimage.jpg |

Hey is the trail truely a 7-8 hr run? If you need to start earlier, dont let me hold you up. Also, how's the trail? Rocky? Will the 225 BFGs work or should I swap out to the MTR tires this week? I still need to put the skids back on. blah that'll suck. looking forward to the run. mike |

I don't recall it being that long of a trail. Most of the trail is moderate forest road stuff. Only the last climb to the top is rocky but it's loose rocks not as sharp. Probably be ok with the street tires, but they could get cut up |

Note the address change for the Circle K we're meeting at. It's the same place Vern showed in his link, just a different address. The address is 2000 American Ave, not 335. Also changed the time from 7~8 hours to 5~6. Sorry for the miscalculation in the original post... ![]() |
