| Post subject: | AZ LOST Monthly Run... May 22~25 '09 (the Mojave Road) |
Okay... it looks like this run is a go. We'll start the trail in Barstow, CA and finish in Laughlin, NV. The plan is drive out to Barstow, CA on Friday, May 22 and drive home May 25. If anyone wants to caravan up or back, I'll post some times and meeting places etc. In the Wells book, The Mojave Road is broken down into three legs... trails #24, 25 and 26. The entire length is roughly 120 miles long and is rated moderate, suitable for stock SUV's with high ground clearance. We'll be on the trail May 23~24 and spending one night in the desert. Bring extra gas, food, water, your camping gear and whatever else you think you'll need. There are no services along or near the trail. The number of vehicles and people in the group is limited to 6 vehicles and 14 people according to the NPS and BLM officals I talked to in Barstow. So, if by chance we get more vehicles/people, we'll have to split into two groups. Here are a couple of links giving the history of the Majove Road... http://www.desertusa.com/mag99/nov/stor ... trail.html http://www.nps.gov/archive/moja/mojahtmr.htm The plan.... Drive to Barstow: May 22 Run the trail: May 23~24 (camping overnight on the trail) Meet: TBA Time: TBA Drive Home: May 25 Team 1: 1. AZKJ +1 2. Signcutter21 +1 3. Oldhockeyvb + 4. 2006KJSPORT4x4 +2 5. JJsKJ + 1 6. KE7NEG +1 7. Preston +1 |

AJ, I'm being informed that it's Signcutter and Katelynn, not +1. LOL, I told her to get her old account or stop reading over my shoulder. PoorMtnKid, not sure about the pets as far as NPS is concerned. As far as the club is concerned, yes, as long as they are behaved, don't interfer with the operation other motor vehicles, picked up after, etc etc. Later Mike |

Yeah that wont be a problem at all. He has never been on any trails before so I will take him at some local spots here in town to see how he handels it and if he is good then it might be a go. I will keep you all posted. Do we know about what time we will be leaving the trail? |

Mike... have +1 check the first post and see if it meets with her approval. You know, she may just have earned herself a new nickname... "+1" PoorMtnKid... x2 on what Mike said about pets. Off the top of my head, I think I read somewhere that dogs must be kept on a 6 ft leash. I'll check with BLM and the NPS and let you know for sure. |

Bump.... Anybody else interested in this adventure? So far we have the following people signed on.... Team 1: 1. AZKJ +1 2. Signcutter21 +1 3. Oldhockeyvb + 4. 2006KJSPORT4x4 +2 5. JJsKJ + 1 6. KE7NEG +1 Team 2: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Maybe: - CMax26az +1 - KJ Taz + - Neatus +2 We can take up to 6 vehicles and 14 people in one group, so there is still room for 1 more vehicle and 4 more people. If more than that sign on, we'll have to split off into smaller groups and space them a few miles apart. |

Do you know yet where you will be camping the 1st night? I am contemplating running the 1st half w/ you all from Barstow, spending the night and then heading off the trail to home on Sunday. (if that is ok w/ the rest of ya?) |

I'll add you to the list. Will you be by yourself or have a co-pilot? I'm in the process of loading the trail in my GPS, and looking at the Wells and Casebier books. If you look at the map on page 113 of the Wells SO-Cal book, there are a couple of camping spots along the Central portion of the trail... - a camping spot south of the trail and just west of waypoint #6, by the Beale Mountains - there are two camp grounds south of the trail off of Black Canyon Road... Mid Hills Camp Ground and a little farther south, the Hole-in-the-Wall Camp Ground. All three are not far from roads running south to I-40. I guess which one we camp at depends how far we make it the first day. I'd really like to camp at Caruthers Canyon, but that is on the far east side of the Cenral trail and about 7.5 miles north. It would be tough to make it there unless we meet up and get going pretty early. Vern, Mike... have you had a chance to do any trip planning and have some suggestions for our camping spot? We can talk about more at the club run/bbq/meeting on the 21st. |

JJ, that's great. I'll finally be able to see that beast of yours. AJ, not really to much lately. Last month been busy with doing the bike thing. Plan on doing it in the coming weeks. Might have a new toy with me then also. |

LOL... if you have a good navigator, we could use one. My Garmin Nuvii doesn't have the topo maps and I had to wing it when I uploaded the waypoints last night. On top of that, we're running the trail in reverse, not the way the Wells and Casebier books have it laid out (I'm not too good at reading in reverse).... AJ |

Thats not a bad drive down to Barstow from Vegas, and you come out in Laughlin? I am thinking about this one. You still have room for vehicles? If so I would like to be a possible. I need to check with work etc to make sure I could do it. |

Yes, we'll start in Barstow and finish up a few miles south of Laughlin. We can take up to 6 vehicles and 14 people in one group, so there is still room for "1" more vehicle and 4 more people. If more than that sign on, we'll have to split off into smaller groups and space them a few miles apart. So far we have the following people signed on and I'll put you down as a maybe until you can find out about your work.... Team 1: 1. AZKJ +1 2. Signcutter21 +1 3. Oldhockeyvb + 4. 2006KJSPORT4x4 +2 5. JJsKJ + 1 6. KE7NEG +1 Team 2: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Maybe: - CMax26az +1 - KJ Taz + - Neatus +2 |

KE7NEG and his wife Kathy, from the E.V. 4x4 Group have signed on for this adventure. He drives a red '05 TJ with "lots of scratches". He is also a Ham... Kevin, you may know him. Okay... since we are limited to 6 vehicles to a group, I'll start a list for Team 2. We'll decide who'll lead that one later on, so folks without much experience in leading don't let that stop you from signing up. We wouldn't let anyone get "LOST". Here is the latest list... Team 1: 1. AZKJ +1 2. Signcutter21 +1 3. Oldhockeyvb + 4. 2006KJSPORT4x4 +2 5. JJsKJ + 1 6. KE7NEG +1 Team 2: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Maybe: - CMax26az +1 - KJ Taz |
