Okay, sounds like we finally go a game plan, not to last minute. haha

Trail
Mexican Border Road-Montezuma Pass, Lochiel, Harshaw, Flux Canyon

Details
The trail (Massey #12&13, Wells #49) starts at the Montezuma Pass exit on SR 92,south of Sierra Vista. It heads over the Pass and travels westbound just north of the US Border with Mexico. The trail comes to the ghost town of Lochiel. There are several buildings there to include an old Customs House. From there the trail continues north west to the Dusquesne Mine ghost towna and Washington Camp. After some photo oppurtunities in these scenic areas. We will head north on the Harshaw trail (Massey #13). Along this trail are additional old mines and the ghost town of Harshaw. The trail will exit on SR 82, at Patagonia.

The trail is rated as very easy at a 1. It will be some where in the range of 50 miles. The road is for the most part grated. There have been sections of washboard. I've also been told that when approaching Lochiel, there are several turn offs to get onto the actual border road. While being easy, bring the camera as it is rated very scenic. The two trails should be approximatley 5 hrs of drive time, plus looky loo times.

Bring a sack lunch and well find a scenic spot to take a lunch break.

Meet time
We will be meeting at 8:00 for breakfast at the Bisbee Breakfast Club in Bisbee. After a filling breakfast we will take off to the trailhead. We will stop at a gas station for fill up and road treats. If you don't plan on making breakfast, let me know and we'll make meet arrangements.

Attendees
Signcutter21
AZKJ + Mrs.AZKJ
Silverdiesel
Trailman +1
LilBob- Signcutters buddy.

"Trail Leader"... sounds like a plan !!! I'm claiming my #3 spot. And breakfast at the BBC is a winner too.

LOL... any update on your two "special" friends?

2 Mopar, sorry that you will not be able to make it. Next time your back in out west, let us know and we'll work out something to get you back on these AZ trails.

After looking at the trail books some more and at the suggestion of AJ, we'll through the Flux Canyon trail in there. It'll add a bit more excitement to the gravel road. It's only rated a 4 and shouldn't be that difficult. It's listed as another hour long trail, but considering it takes out some of the Hashaw Trail, I'd think only another 45 minutes from what we had origainally planned. We'll still hit the Harshaw township and double back to Flux Canyon.

I'm getting excited about this.

Mike

oh AJ, nope still no word. :(

Thanks for adding that in to the run on the 21st!! Looking at the Massey book some more, I see an opportunity for some more runs in that area. There seem to be a few more trails in the book and even more that aren't. Looks like it might be a fun area to explore... hint, hint.

Okay!!! GPS waypoints added to Garmin, looked over the trail on Google Earth = we're ready to go!!! Is it the 21st yet???

Signcutter21's calculations are right on. I've figured up the trail to be 51.4 miles and 5.25 hours driving time (not counting stops for exploring etc).

Oh, and don't forget breakfast at the "Bisbee Breakfast Club" !!! You won't go away hungry, that's for sure.

There's still plenty of time to make plans to attend and there's always room for more Jeeps or other 4x4's... see everyone next weekend!!!

Hey AJ ! Doing that PM arrival at the BW in SV and I will try to ring you via cell phone when I arrive and I will try to get into town as quick as I can. Work is getting crazy but I am trying to get out as early as I can.
I hope to see more people than committed/listed as this run sounds like a lot of fun and I will be packing my camera!
Come one and come all!! Need to see all those unannounced arrivals just like I do all the time!

Thanks to everybody who made the run. While it was on the easy side, the scenry and company was spectacular. I'll try to post a few pics on Monday if nobody else does.

Also on a positive note, we introduced 3 prospective members to the club. They all said they enjoyed the group and plan on joining.

later
mike

and AJ sorry no pics of sat night to post for you.

Thanks Mike, for a nice run, even tho the "Wranglers" were regulated to the back of the line!!! Hope to see more of your Douglas/Sierra Vista buddies on future runs.

Roland, we enjoyed the ride home and dinner at the Petro in Eloy!!

Mike, okay... no pics from Sat night, but did your two "special" friends show???

Here are a few pics from the run:

Hoot!! Post #100! I guess I am not a newbe anymore!
I had a wonderful time both trailwise, scenery and especially people wise. Jeeping brings out that special interest that only great, friendly, enthusiastic, intelligent people have. We had great representatives here at this run! Nice to meet everyone.

I now have to get into a pattern of working weekends for now so I will try to make runs when I can get the time.
My next two commitments however are the two next third Saturdays of March for the club meeting/gathering and April for FITS IV.

Next time post #101!!

Roland
