On Sunday May 17th we will be doing a tech fest focusing on transmission cooler installs. If you want to help, or want a cooler installed... this is the time to do it.

SilverDiesel has volunteered the use of shop facilities for this install. More details to follow. ...

Would I need to join the AZ LOST group first?

What cooler is recommended and where to get?

Gary

Tech day is set. 9:00 AM Sunday at my work location

But due to shop use/install time complete help will be limited to the first three KJ's expressing confirmed installed needs.
It took me a while to do my CRD but I intend to help install three vehicles. I will still need help from the vehicle owner or his rep to speed things along!

Final but tentative pending PM confirm with instructor/ installer:

1. Pablo (CRD)
2. PhoenixCRD (CRD)
3.

PLEASE PM ME FOR FINAL APPOINTMENT AND ADDRESS OF LOCATION...

For CRD's the cooler sells for $81 and an additional parts/extra hose/extra clamps kit of approx $5. Usual shop personnel install labor is $65 but that $65 is WAIVED due to me helping! Gasser KJs probably would take that same cooler size so cost is same.

YES others can come and watch and learn and if you have another source of trans coolers the basic install is the same so watch and learn, all is welcome.
And YES AJ you and others can come by and just be there supporting.
I will try to get pic's of my current install before hand and post here.

TECH DAY is coming up and AZLOST has members ready to lend a hand and show Automatic Transmission Aux Cooler install procedures.

Please PM me if you need directions
Again May 17th at 9:00AM and all this should take probly 3-4 hours Max.

I'm still interested but suffered (ing) a back spasm issue right now. I can still wrench albeit slowly so I still plan on being there. What brand/model is the cooler and where do I pick one up?

Just busting your chops... going to the LOST Tech Fest instead. Besides, there's nothing to installing the cheap disco's... if this old, fat, retired guy can do it, anyone can. And glad to see that your group gave you permission to ask. I was begining to wonder what kind of secret society you where hanging with.... :P

Sorry about the hi-jack... back to regular programing.

We installed two transmission coolers today. One in my Jeep, and one in PhoenixCRD's. We took pictures with mine and got our bearings, so by the time we got to the second one, things moved much quicker. AJ took pics for us, they may end up in here or in the CRD section-- say tuned.

Many thanks to the service station for the use of the excellent temperature controlled facilities. The drive up ramps and air tools were nice to have, and the swap cooler was essential as it topped off at 106. Last of all, many thanks to Roland-- for generously sharing his time with us.

Big thanks to Silva(er)diesel for arranging facilities, parts acquisition and his work experience.
Thanks to Pablo for being the guinnea pig.
Thanks to AJKJ for the good company and hopefully good photos. Sorry we weren't able to hit the secret place with you  maybe another time :)

Time to tow the boat again!

Gary (time to update the sig line)

Today's results:

Installed temp gauge is around 10-15 degrees lower (autometer gauge installed in the output port going to the trans coolers).

Using the infared temp guage shows:

input hose to newly installed aux cooler: 150
output hose coming out of cooler: 122

Seems much cooler. From shooting temps across the cooler plate, I do notice the heat rising. It seems to build around the upper end and the output port especially, so for those of you with the tubes gravity feeding (your input port being my output port) might see even cooler temps. The center of the cooler is the coolest at 112, around the top port is around 130 or so.

The next thing I am going do is shoot the tube all the way back to the transmission and look for any areas that maybe heat soaking. If I find any, they will get adjusted or some thermal insulation wrapping.
