Beth and I haven't been up to Montana Mountain, Wells #48 (M), in over a year, so we're heading up there again in August.

If the water isn't too high from monsoon rains, we'll start out a little different than we normally do. Instead of starting out as Wells describes, I'll go up the riverbed a few miles and then meet up with the main road. Also, to add some variety for those who've done this trail before, I plan to exit the trail via Fortuna Peak trail, and come out on Magnum Mine Road, above Superior, instead of the normal exit through the rock garden.

The Fortuna Peak trail is a little steep in places and expect some desert pin stripping. For the most part, it's a narrow one track trail which has some manzinita along the way.

The trail is rated "medium" and is suitable for a stock height Liberty with skids, good A/T tires and tow hooks. Total trail mileage is a little over 30 miles.

So, pack a lunch, bring lots of water and don't forget your camera!!

AJ/ Roland,
You guys are gonna hate me, but I gotta bail on this one. We just got mandated overtime for the next couple weeks. The stuck me w/ satruday, and no way i'm gonna be able to get off past 2 am and drive up there to jeep w/ you guys. Finally, the one day I get a day off and I gotta work. I'm so bummed. Have a great trip though and hopefully we can re run it again in the future.

later,
mike

Hey guys... we're still on for tomorrow, rain or shine, right?

To tell the truth, I'm looking forward to a little rain and some water crossings. It's been years since we were up there in wet weather and it was a pleasant relief from the Valley heat.

See ya all in the AM unless I hear different from you.

Hey unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it out tomorrow. I'm pretty disappointed, I was actually looking forward to some mud covering my cab instead of the usual dust. I'll catch you all next time.

Looks like plenty of water. I probably live 10 miles from Gold Canyon and it has rained hard last night and today. See everyone tomorrow.

Good to see Ryan pop in and still see he has interest! Hope to see him soon!
Good to see Pablo is still alive but we all know he's got that ""Its Alive!!""( like the movie says ) CRD project going on that 06 Sport so we are extremely looking forward to see it in action tomorrow! GDE, 410's, lockers and all!
I'm still in rain or shine!-- I need the diversion as it has been pretty busy around here!

Roland, Paul... thanks for coming out and for the help with the tire!!! Enjoyed the company and dinner after.

Looking at my topo maps and in Goggle Earth, it looks like that FR 432 got a lot easier after where I climbed to the top of the hill. It would of took us to US 60, and dumped us just .05 a mile east of where we were supposed to come out by Oak Flat. On the other hand, there was a huge electrical plant we would of had to go around... don't know if they would of let us get that close as the road ran right next to. Maybe this week I'll run up to that plant and check it out.

Anyway, thanks again. I'll post a trip report and a few pics in the AM.
