Post subject:  Local Biodiesel
Hey all,

I'm thinking about running a bio blend in my CRD. I've googled around and found Western States Petroleum and AZ Biodiesel in the Phx area. Are these the only places that sell bio?

It's not that they seem bad, it's just that they only offer B99 when I would prefer to run more like B10-B20. Any local CRD owners (Silverdiesel?) have suggestions?

Yup - you got it -- in greater Phoenix those aforementioned locations are the ONLY places in the area-

There is no B100 anywhere- These two outfits blend B99 for better tax advantages.
Western States told me they run "Pacific Pride" unmanned filling stations and some of them have B20.
You have to "blend" by mixing on your own otherwise.

I work 10 blocks away from Western States downtown so those guys see me there often. I tried AZbiodiesel too and their juice seems to be more "powerful".

Last Pricing at Western States was $2.39 'bout two weeks ago--FYI

Thanks. I live about 6 blocks from AZBiodiesel, so I may give them a try. If you haven't seen it already, here is a thread I started over in the CRD forum.

The "guy" I am referring to is a person I spoke with over at AZBio. Maybe his numbers are correct and that explains the added power that you experienced when you used their juice. Western States, I'm led to believe, uses mainly soy-based bio.

If I was convinced it wouldn't wreck havoc on my engine, I would run AZBio's B99 straight up.... I'm just not sure... It's kind of a pain to drive to AZBio for just a gallon or two and then top off at a local dino place. Grr.

I run AZBio. I have noticed the best gain around B20-B50. Anything more than that and my mileage goes down. I don't run it all the time as the CRD is not a daily driver. I let it sit for a few weeks once and had to purge the tank when it went south.

Ayyy-- Gassers! (Patoowie!)

I jest (JK)- AJ and I get along real well
When I wheel with him - he is always lead as he has the Garmin-- but his JK has EVIC and we are always comparing mileage--
His Wrangler will show 11-13 MPG while the CRD shows 21-23 MPG's!
He may not smell the fry oil up front but these mileage reports always make me happier than eating McDonald's french fries!

Back to thread- I'm sure Pablo has tried Western States a time or two like me but using just me as a comparison, that Biodiesel in Gilbert does show more power but as Pablo stated- keep it max B40.

Thanks. I'm thinking 5 gallons of AZBio + filled with nearby dino = good combo. Should keep me right around B30 in a 20 gallon tank if I don't run the tank too dry.

Any reason other than mpg/power loss to keep it under B40? Of course, the folks over at AZBio claim that their fuel is most efficient when you are using fully B99... I wonder why :roll:

Y'all seem like a fun group of guys (and gals!). I'm looking forward to a good off road trip or two this fall!

AZ CRD friends, I thought y'all might be interested to know of a relatively recent development at AZ Biodiesel.

While I was getting my usual five gallon bio pick me up, I asked the attendant if they were moving forward on their plans to get self-service pumps. Apparently, they are currently in the process of constructing a new facility 1 1/2 miles west on Guadeloupe, which will include a number of modern bio diesel pumps. These will allow you to customize your mix, be it B100 or B2. No date on when this facility will open, but I would imagine that it may be something later this year....

AzBiodiesel also keeps mentioning of a new location to dispense fuel in Avondale also. This location is right up the street from the house. I hope this comes into existence soon also.
