Yes sir, will do. If it turns into a bickering match like you said it did last time, we're outta there.

I know this is short notice, but if anyone else wants to go the meeting starts at 1330., the address is:

605 Tegner St Building B
Wickenburg, AZ

After the meeting, time permitting, we're going to make a quick run up to Box Canyon of the Hassayampa (Massey C-21). It's a fun little trail, lots of sandy river bottom and maybe some water.

AJ

These guys better be discussing things like eminent trail closings. These governmental decisions will be made real soon and this group needs to be on top of it.
Thats what I will be looking for---
Neatus, sorry to see of your possible nonattendance..

Roland

Roland and I attended the ASA4WDC meeting this afternoon in Wickenburg. There is really nothing to report on. They talked about topics such as dash plaques, becoming a certified safety instructor for your club, and upcoming events of the different clubs that make up the ASA4WDC.

Land issues... about all they said was we need to get involved and write letters to the Tonto NF people letting them know we are responsible four wheelers and are against closing public lands, which by all accounts that I heard today, is getting closer and closer to becoming a reality. Rather than spend time today and dragging the meeting out, the ASA4WDC Board is planning to hold another meeting in March to discuss only land issues.

Refer to Djui5's POST for information on what to write and where to send it. It can't be stressed enough that we need to get off our rear ends and start writting letters. Not only are the Greenies trying to shut down trails here in Arizona, they are attacking on all fronts... even the 4wd mecca of the United States, Moab, UT.

Vern... they asked about you and if Roland and I had any inputs on your Adopt A Trail program that you head up. Of course we had no inputs as we were not given any information to pass on to them.

So much for the meeting.

------------------------------------------

After the meeting, Roland and I made a quick run up the Box Canyon of the Hassayampa. It's a short, fun trail through a very sandy river bottom. There was a little water to play in.

After the run we headed back to Phoenix. We met Beth, Roland's wife and daughters for dinner at Matador's Mexican Restaurant in downtown Phoenix. We called the run complete after dinner.

Here's a pic of Roland splashing around....

Gents, thanks for going to this. I know it isn't that fun of a thing to do but it does let folks know we are alive and kicking. Sorry I could not make it.

Two main points for clarification

1. These letters to be written by concerned off roaders need to have Djui5's "emotional" content but no path of delivery was mentioned and to really get the jest of what needs to be written/done go to link

http://asa4wdc.org/

and go to the second alert and your content body of the letter needs to contain content as described. Also these letters need to be snail mailed to an address posted. And all this needs to be in their hands by 12/4 AND I understand these letters can only list 1 specific trail at a time, (!!) (all anti offroader intention to me)

2. Also on the subject of insurance coverage by the ASA4WDC seems to be only in effect on sanctioned, posted runs approved by the organization. I get this interpretation by reading info off the newsletter.

BTW I found out my US Representative is pretty much anti off road so I gotta see who I vote for next election and it won't be him----

I hate to say this but we are losing Tonto National Forest for our sport- seems the greenies coupled with budget cuts are making the officials heavily lean to this. The ASA4WDC has really tried to curb trail closings but for every letter sent there are 10x sent by the anti guys as they are very organized and well funded.
I believe membership by AZ LOST JEEPS is a very good idea and needs to continue however. This shows that we are serious about supporting our sport and are passionate about keeping trails open and to keeping a positive public attutude about offroading and 4wheelers.
Continued membership to ASA4WDC IMO is a must.

OH yeah -- I had a blast on the river with AZKJ just north of town. I guarantee you, any time AJ is leading a run you can't go wrong!!! This club is very lucky to have literally a veteran trail guide (been there - done that) in our midst. Thanks for the exposure to the Hassayumpa River I will be back to explore more!
