Beth and I are going to celebrate New Year Day 2010 on the trail. We're going to run Montana Mountain (Wells #48, rated medium). A stock height KJ with good A/T tires will not have any problems running this trail. There is a short rock garden towards the end of the trail that has to be negotiated.

When: Jan 1, 2010
Time: Leaving at 0900 sharp
Meet: Shell Station in Gold Canyon (NW corner of US 60 and Mountainbrook Road)
Length: 30 miles, 5~6 hours

If your interest, post up and we'll see you New Years morning!! :SOMBRERO:

We'll be at the Shell Station in Gold Canyon and leave right at 0900. How many people will be with you?

I don't have a paper map, but here's the route plotted on a topo program for my GPS. The turn off for the trail head is Queen Valley Road, which is 2.1 miles past Florence Junction exit on US 60.

Well, just like the song says... "one is the loneliest number". We waited until 0910 but MOCHODURAZO was a no show. Beth and I did the run ourselves as I was anxious to check out the new Rubicon Express 2" BB spacer coil lift with longer montube shocks. There was light traffic on the trail, but we didn't try Casey's Wash or any of the fun side trips since we were alone.

While the new 2" lift won't make my JK a super Jeep, it preformed as I wanted it to... it gives me a solid 2" of lift and some more belly clearance. It kept my 33x11.5-16 tires from rubbing on the fender wheels. Both bumpers are now 24" off the ground, the rock rails are 20" and both differentials clear the ground by 13". I didn't disconnect the front sway bar (JKS Quicker Disconnects are next on my list), but I managed to stuff a rear tire all the way into the wheel well with no rubbing.

All in all it was a good day... I didn't get shot at, we didn't get stuck, and I didn't break anything. The only problem was with the stupid Harbor Freight 12 volt air compressor. It blew a fuse when I went to air up the fourth tire. I've used it several times and never had a problem, but this time it wanted to play games with me. Guess what I have in my tool box now?? Try a bunch of spare 40 amp spare fuses!!

Here are a few pics I took today:

I totally didnt notice you post or I probably would have showed up. But I had time today to build a nice rear cargo shelf for the kj. I'm going to re-enforce it with 2x4 and carpet it so I can strap the hi-lift and/or an ice chest to it. I'm really looking forward to hitting the Bulldog Canyon trail next weekend though.
