Big Bear - General Information - This is our annual Big Bear event. We are going to kick off the festivities with an easy run Friday night, that will lead us into our main event. Saturday will comprise of a day on the trails and dinner around the campfire. We are going to have several trails with various degrees of difficulty to offer this year. A sign up list for trails will be posted as the date gets closer. We have reserved Green Spot Group Campgrounds located on the east end of Big Bear off hwy 38 as our primary staging area and for Saturday nights fun.

Lodging--

Camping is offered all over the mountain. For more info and to book reservations please go here.

For information about hotels, cabins ect. Please go here. Or Google hotels in Big Bear.

A long time favorite is Motel 6 in Big Bear Lake.

Food--

All lunches and dinners are BYOF. BBQ areas as well as some gas grills are available at Green Spot. There are grocery stores close by, so you can shop as you eat if you wish.

Trails--

A list of trails and required equipment will be posted soon. We will offer a difficult, moderate and an easy trail so there will be something for everyone. All trails will be lead by an experienced off roader who knows the area well. The trail leader has the final say on the required equipment needed for each trail. These requirements are not designed to discriminate against anyone, but to enhance the experience for the people on that trail.

More information will be coming soon on all subjects. Any specific questions please post here, or feel free to contact me directly.

My luck stinks on this event. I have always wanted to make it but it always seems to conflict with a previous trip I have planned. I will make it one day, just not this year

AZ guys, if you can swing this trip, you will not regret it. The So Cal group is a great group and they always pick out some scenic and fun trails to hit, which in Big Bear is not hard at all. Ive always wanted to make it back there.

later,mike

If there are those of you interested in a little more "off the beaten path" camping with more privacy, look for the "yellow post" campsites. If I remeber right, they limit to 2 vehicles and 8 people. Most have a picnic table and a fire pit, nothing more. They are also free to use (once you have the SBNF Adventure pass) and all you have to do is "get squatted" and go to the Visitor Center and register you're at the site to get a fire permit. My wife and I prefer this when we camp up there.

Website for the San Bernardino National Forest (info on camping, etc.): http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sanbernardino/

You can also buy your adventure pass online and have it mailed to your house in advance.

If anyone is curious, I have trail maps of the area, and I think I have one with yellow post campsites including a GPX file for those of you with Garmin GPS devices that can use it.

I hope this was helpful.

I would love to go but looks like I am being sent to Houston for the rest of the year.
