Post subject:  Short Notice, Back Way to Crown King, Cancelled

After that real cool running of North Cherry Creek Road I got the bug and I am posting a short notice on a run to Crown King up from Lake Pleasant before it really gets hot.

~~Date, Friday, May 21, 2010, ~~ time 0830
~~Place Hwy 74, Carefree Hwy and Castle Hot Springs Road at the intersection.
~~All day deal so pack a lunch but we usually grab a bite at the eatery at CK proper at the end of the trail.
~~ Mild lift with required plating and rocker rails and AT type tires are a good idea.

No need to list up but at least two Jeeps (or 4WD's) is a good idea.
If you want to list your intentions, great so we will know to expect you.

Persons missing that last posted run last weekend really lost out on a good run. I know trail running is not everybody's cup but if it is....... All of the other street guys need to make Ernie's M+G next month!! One way or another there is a run for everyone.

I have been wanting to do this for a couple weeks now. I am always down for weekday wheelin', BUT I have a front end problem that has been nagging for awhile that needs to be fixed. I thought it was a CV and had it replaced but it wasn't that. I go in tomorrow to hopefully get it fixed (I think it is the hub assembly). I will post up tomorrow either way to let you know if I can make it or not.

Tim... yeah, keep us posted and good luck. BTW... we're meeting at the Cracker Barrel on Bell, just west of the 101 for breakfast before we head out. You're welcome to meet us there if you want.

Can't make it

The shop by my house couldn't get the part until Saturday, plus it would cost bukoo bucks. I am going to try my luck with the dealership, if they will cover it under warranty. Couldn't get an appointment til Tuesday.

Have fun, and take lots 'o pics :JEEPIN:

Well Tim can't make it and now AJ has forgotten to mention he has to go through a breakin period for the new 4.56's he got and for the 500 or so miles, NO WHEELING! And the installer told him to don't put the first 500 miles overnite!
So the run is cancelled. The next time I can run would be Sunday May 31, my next day off but that is Memorial Day weekend.
Tim: Good luck on that repair and enlighten us on the symtoms and fix!
AJ: Next time do not forget about breakin periods when changing gears!

LOL... AJ didn't know about the "strict" break in period for the new gears. Joe at Absolute Off Road said not to cruise at highway speed or put in in 4wd until after the break in period and that's killing me not to try it out. I did notice a great improvement over the slug 3.21 gears driving home on surface streets tonight.

Roland showed up at the shop to take me to lunch since I was stuck there while the new gears were going in. The Jeep was done at 1815 so we headed to Bill Johnson's over on Indian school for a light dinner.

Roland... thanks for baby sitting me today!!

Tim... what is broke on your Jeep??

Hub bearing is toast, so the whole assembly needs to be replaced. The part is $220 bucks + labor = more than the $150 warranty deductible I have. Hopefully the dealer won't give me crap this time. Last two times I have been there they didn't want to cover anything under the warranty due to the Jeep going "off-road"; they needed a little persuading. That was before rock sliders, pinstripes, trail rash, etc. Dealing with a different service advisor this time so maybe he'll be more lenient. Fingers crossed.

500 miles with out going highway speeds? That would drive me nuts, and take about two months :dizzy: Good luck with that :SOMBRERO:

Uh... what part of "4wd" and "trail rated" don't they understand?? Also look in the owner's manual and point out the service intervals which clearly show a stricter service schedule "if driven off road".

Short story... after getting my lift installed I ran Bulldog Canyon with Rex. I didn't disconnect my sway bar and tore the sway bar link right off and bent the bottom mounting bracket in. I went by my dealer to see if they could bend the steel bracket on the axle back into place. They said yes and they would also cover it AND the broken/missing sway bar link under warranty. I said thanks, but I have some new JKS quick disconnects to install and I'll have the shop putting them on fix the bracket I just wanted to know if the bracket could be pounded back into shape and if it broke while doing so, could it be welded back on.

Pretty good customer service if you ask me... but then I've bought two Jeeps and a Crossfire from them. I guess being a repeat customer may have helped a little too... end of story.

Good luck with yours and keep is posted!!

LOL... yeah, it's killing me too not being able to drive it at speed and in 4wd until the break in period is up. I guess I'll be making a few cross town stop and go driving trips to get the first 250 miles in and then some highway driving to get the last 250 miles. It should take me less than a week.
