I know some of my fellow AZ LOST peeps have a pop-up trailer that you tow to campsites for some of our events or to wherever you please for a nice vacation getaway so I look to you for some answers to some questions.

Did you add any new equipment to aid with braking or cooling of the KJ?

How much weight are you towing when your pop-up is loaded down with the gear for the weekend or week long vacation?

What kind of pop-up trailer do you have?

What other recommendations do you have for a rookie pop-up trailer potential owner?

I'm looking at getting a new Coleman Evolution E1 or E3. I like the look and the supposed "off-road" capability they might have. It also looks like it would be great for weekend runs to the dunes down here near me or for a run up to Big Bear or out towards the Tucson area and otherwise.

Any and all comments are welcome, thanks for your help and educating words!!

Mine came with electric brakes and I added a brake controller to the KJ- highly recommended. I also had some white knuckle time the first trip out with trailer sway. I bought a sway bar as soon as I came back and had no trouble after that- also highly recommended. One of those cheap friction type, worked fine

I have a Coleman Taos with no brakes. I really wish it had some. I'm sure I'm quite heavy, although I'm not sure what the true loaded weight is. Stopping can be an adventure at times.

I really have no problems towing - even up long hills - although I can see the gas gauge swing when I do. No towing package either.

Since it's so small, I haven't had any sway issues either.

So Todd, you going to have to get a bigger pop-up now? Or will you just sleep in a tent now? :D

No way. The little Taos is great. Plenty of room for the baby's kennel... :D

I do wish we had the factory furnace, though.

Mod plans include the axle flip at some point, but I'm in no rush.

My 18' R-Pod weighs about 2,300 pounds empty. I have brakes and a controller on it. No problems with sway or stopping it. It has a 4" lift kit in it too! :D I'm way too old to sleep on the ground! The last time I slept on the ground was in 1967 in Vietnam.

When you are ready to install that brake controller let me know, Scott. I can install it like I have in my CRD very easily. A common use, heavy duty electronic unit like the Journey HD I use will work perfect. I can help with the rear wiring also. Even if you end up not owning a trailer having these features on your Jeep is a plus.

Now would there be a different controller for a vehicle with and a vehicle without ABS? My Jeep had ABS but will be going to non-ABS setup...

A modern electronic brake controller like the one I mentioned will not affect or be affected by Chrysler/Bosch's ECU, BCM, ABS, ESP, TC or brake assist. Remember Scott my Liberty is a 2006 also and the BC works fine.

So Roland can you quote me just a ball park what it would cost to get one installed for my 06? And lets say I'll be towing a max of 3500 lbs? I'm not sure if there are different BCs for different towed weights or not so I tossed that in there just in case.

Thanks for all the info guys, any other tidbits or recommendations are highly requested!!!
