I'm not familiar with "the rim". How would I find that? (I know the Tucson area pretty well, but this is my first time in Heber.)

FR 300 is a good easy road, scenic, and close to Heber. Just take the 260 West and you hit it. It is called NF 300, FR 300, or Rim Road; it is easy to follow and has a lot of spur roads. Some make loops and some dead end in the middle of nowhere, so be careful of that. If you have a GPS that shows forest roads, you could explore quite a bit. Since it is all National Forest there really aren't any trails so to speak. After looking at my map a bit more, it look like you can take FR 123 up to the Blue Ridge Reservoir. I have never personally been up to the Blue Ridge Reservoir this way, but have wanted to. It is a cool lake and worth the stop if you want to take a swim. On the other side of the lake they have rocks that stick out that you can jump off of; its pretty cool.

Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately, the wifi in my hotel was really sporatic, so I didn't have access to the forum, but we managed to find a fun little road, right around where you suggested.
