Post subject: | Sycamore Creek Area Cleanup 3/26 & 4/1 |
Please come out and help support this effort. This is just one step in helping to keep our trails open and gain additional respect from the land agencies. Sycamore Creek and surrounding area is being targeted for a designated OHV area with lower being desiganated for intensive OHV use. This is a partnership with trail bikes, ATVs, 4WDs, and Tonto Forest. Thanks, Mark Peterson President of AZ Dust Devils and fellow KJ owner ____________________________________________________________ The Friends of the Sycamore in co-operation with the Mesa Ranger District of the Tonto National Forest is conducting two cleanup events in the Sycamore Creek area. The first of the cleanups will occur Sunday March 26 around the Lower Sycamore Creek area, the second to occur Saturday April 1 around the Sugarloaf Mountain Road area (middle Sycamore Creek entrance). The four wheel drive community is being asked to come out in mass to support the 3/26 cleanup efforts. The dirt bike community is being asked to come out in mass to support the 4/1 cleanup. Anyone will be welcome to participate in either weekend or both events. The Forest Service will be providing trash bags and trash pickup during both these events. For both cleanup events, meet at 8:00 - Short organization meeting with the FS at 8:00 Volunteers should bring the usual items like rakes, shovels, gloves, sun screen, water, food, etc. The cleanups will run from 8am to about 1pm for each event. This is an opportunity for the Four Wheel Drive/OHV community to show their support for the Mesa Ranger district's efforts to keep this area open for OHV access. Thank you for your support, Ken Shields Friends of Sycamore Arizona Dust Devils |

For 3/26, it is the main entrance to Lower Sycamore on the north side of the Beeline about 1/2 tp 1 mile east of the Bush turnoff. For 4/1, it is Sugarloaf Mountain road which is on the north side of the Beeline right across from the 4 Peaks road. Hope to see some of the Libertys out there and thank for any support. |

Most of our folks are doing a Sedona run that weekend. I'm booked Saturday so I can't make Sedona, but Sunday is open for me. I'll be there, looking forward to meeting you and helping out with the cleanup. |

Thanks for any support. I know this is a bad weekend with a number of other events. We unfortunately got pushed into the dates by the Tonto FS schedule and ability to support. If anybody has some free hours on Sunday morning. Please drop by and lend a hand. Thanks again. |

Mark: It was great to meet you. You have a great group of folks doing good work. Thanks for introducing me to the Sycamore creek area. Anybody out there with a few hours to spare next weekend should definitely help out in this effort. You'll enjoy it! |

Post subject: | update... and thanks to Vern |
The Forest Service was pleased with the impact our rather small group of volunteers made. We only got about 40 "officially" signed in people; but they made a major impact. I especially appreciate Vern coming up from Tucson to assist with the effort and am glad to hear you enjoyed it. It was great to finally put a face and vehicle with a name and was a pleasure to have met you. Here are a couple shots of the impact we had. This was about 2/3 through with the first area my group tackled. ![]() This was how it looked when we finished ![]() This was the second area when we started on it. ![]() This was how we left the second area ![]() We stayed out there until about 1:30. If we could get a number more people out there next Saturday... we could leave the Forest Service floored with our efforts. [/img] |

Wow, what a change! Great to see wheelers making a postive difference out there. Those who litter should be tasered. Or have all the bags o' junk tossed on their lawn. Just my opinion. |

These are truly some awesome folks. As amazing as the pictures look, they don't do justice to the job these folks did. Another clean-up is planned this weekend and a trail run afterwards- One word of caution, these folks are serious. I haven't seen the trail they're talking about, but based on what I saw last weekend it could be on the order of the white tanks run some of us did last october. |
