I'm trying to organize a few simple trips in the next two months, if anyone's interested. Someone at work with a stock XJ with good tires wants to go out in April. Maybe something like Gunsight Pass south of Tucson.

I sent a PM to oldhockeyvb who said that he was busy in April but would be interested in going out in May. That could be a more challenging trip. Maybe Rice Peak or Canelo Hills or Hands Pass.

Also, I'm interested in checking out some of the trails in the western part of the state (near Yuma, KOFA, etc).

I'm definitely interested in something in May although it will probably have to be close by. I'm looking at making a longer trip in early june, maybe the yuma/parker area for a few days and some camping?

Something close by in May would be good.

Yuma/Parker in June sounds fun. My wife is thinking camping in Yuma in June must be hot, maybe it's a tiny bit cooler in Parker? Anywhere in that area is fine with me. The only thing about June is that we have a big trip planned to Glacier National Park in the middle of June, after the 15th.

We're in Cottonwood for the next couple weeks camping. Then not sure where else, but we leave for home at end of May.
I have a stock KJ if anyone is interested in showing me around some 4x4 trails near here, Sedona, Prescott, etc.
Thanks,
Forest

Just lurking .....
But if you guys plan anything I am game.
Gotta get this group woke up somehow and all others following LOST JEEPS can make it even better!!!
I still work weekends but I can try to meetup.
Me - Still have the diesel - this truck has unique challenges as well as its age adds up to "glad I like this Jeep so much". From glow plugs to EGR coolant leaks to a rebuilt turbo and then add all the regular Jeep issues like needs redo on suspension to A/C problems to electrical issues as well as now it needs a transfer case reseal... But with positive items such as an ECU flash (GDE ECOtune) and added lift pump I can easily get mid 20's city and 32 Hwy MPG's. Easily get at least 500 miles out of a tank. This mileage still makes this KJ my DD and at 137K miles I still will intend to run this Jeep for quite a while.
Post up if you guys plan any thing.

My wife and I went down to the Canelo Hills and Parker Lake area today. We went on a moderately demanding 4WD trail by ourselves, about 14 or 15 miles in 2.5 hours. It might have been better from a safety perspective to have been in a group, but there is an active 2m ham radio repeater in the area, plus some cell phone service, plus some private homes towards the beginning and end of the trail. Also we met two separate ATV riders. We'll do it again. We scraped bottom a few times. Used the rear locker once.

After that we ran down to Parker Lake and hiked around the lake, maybe 4.5 miles at a 2 mph pace. It was a little chilly by local standards so there weren't too many people there.

We'd be interested in doing something not too far north in central Arizona over the next two weekends. This wouldn't be too far from Cottonwood, Forest. We like the Sedona / Cottonwood / Jerome area, but its too far to go for a day trip. When we go we stay for a few days.

I'll throw out some possibilities (all from guide books, haven't been on any of them):

(1) Wickenburg Mountains, 25 mi one way, 5 to 6 hours round trip. This is my first choice, but may be too difficult for stock vehicle?
(2) Harquahala Peak, 10.6 mi one way, 2 hours round trip. Someone from work expressed interest in this because of old solar observatory on peak. Pretty sure this can be done by stock vehicle.
(3) Belmont Mountain, 22 miles, 2 to 3 hours. Easy.

I could be in for something in May depending on location and timing. I'm on call for work so I can't go too far, maybe a Rice Peak run?

I posted a topic for a camping four wheeling trip in Parker the first weekend in June. It shouldn't be too hot then. Later in the month will be too hot. Check it out!

A Rice Peak run in May sounds good. I've never been there.

A trip to Parker with camping sounds good as well. How many nights camping are you thinking of?

I will arrive in Parker on Friday and camp two nights, leaving for home Sunday. I'm actually going up Wednesday to Lake Havasu taking my jetski and meeting my son there Wednesday and Thursday then driving down to Parker friday.

hands pass is a great run, i would totally do that one again. that area is so nice, plus in the middle of summer the elevation has got to help out a bit with the heat

We're interested in Hands Pass sometime.

I'm more timid about difficult trails right now as the front of the vehicle is sagging due to the weight of the bumper I put on earlier this year. I measured about 20" from the axle center to the fender flare, which is maybe 2" of lift. In the short run I'm thinking about adding a 3/8" clevis lift to get back closer to 2.5" in front. In the long run I need to put on heavy duty OME springs. I toy some with putting on a 4" lift and 32" tires, but that's expensive and it's not clear it's worth the loss of torque.
