Post subject:  Floridain visiting Arizona

Hey!

I just found out I'm going to be in Tucson in July. Are there any good trails to ride around there? I'm going to try and rent a 4x4 while I'm out there so I can do a bit of trail riding. I have never been to Arizona so this will be a first. Any advice on where to rent from would be great. I'm going to be stuck with whatever the airport offers for a 4x4 if I can't find somewhere else to rent from. I would love to meet up with some AZ LOST folks out that way. Well if anyone has advice on this trip let me know. I'm going to be flying out on July 20th and flying back on the 24th. What would be a nice place to stay near some trails? I have to be within an hour of Tucson. Thanks guys,

Wes (Down Right LOST)

Hey... Well, glad you can make it down for a visit. I don't know the Tucson area very well, but from what I can tell there are only a few rental agencies at the airport that may even have 4x4's.

They are:

Hertz - approx $65 - $70 per day
Subaru Outback *i know, i know but it's still 4WD*
GMC Envoy
Toyota 4Runner
Or Similar :)

Enterprise - approx $49 - $79 per day
Chevy Trailblazer
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Chevy Colorado
Dodge Dakota
Or Similar *just gotta keep throwing it in there*

Dollar - *no rate info available*
Jeep Wrangler :)
Jeep Liberty :D
Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo
Dodge Durango
Or Similar *last time i promise*

Hope that helps you out.

I'm from the Tucson area and know of at least (4) trails that are near by, just depends on what kind of wheeling your looking for? I.E. scenic, hardcore, ect

I will be in the most capable stock 4x4 I can find to rent. I'm looking at the H3 or Jeep Wrangler. I'm not sure I can get one at the Tucson airport. I want to get out and see Arizona. The only four wheeling I've done has all been in the southeast (Ocala National Forest, Tellico NC, North Alabama). I will only have a tow strap, a big come-a-long, a few shackles, etc. so I can't get in to extreme.

I have also thought about just renting a car and find a true 4x4 rental place to rent a jeep for a day. Not sure if they have any places like that in Tucson. I know they rent 4x4's in Sedona but I'm not sure how long a drive that is from Tucson.

Thanks for the help guys,

Wes

I'm in Phoenix which is about half-way between Tucson and Sedona. Sedona is a few hours away from Tucson but I say it would be worth the drive if you can afford the time. Not that there aren't plenty of great trails in the Tucson area but the Red Rocks are one of the real jewels of the Southwest. Use of words like "spectacular" and "breathtaking" isn't hyperbole. But again, the folks in the Tucson area can vouche for and point you to any number of great trails in their neck of the woods...er...desert.

I do agree....Red Rocks are one of the real jewels of the Southwest.
