I've had several face to face, and PM conversations with the admins about making BC part of the PNW chapter, since (looking back through old posts) there doens't seem to be a huge number of ya, not having your own chapter, and by goodness, your right next to us (I'm 40 miles from the border...) It's all said and done, the only thing that they are waiting on, is a new name, one that would incorporate BC into the fold also. A little less USA only sounding, and more of the area as a whole. What are everyones opinions? |

What are everyones opinions? I think combining BC with the PNW is a great idea. It gives us a lot of options for getting together and combined we have a lot more people than we would as two seperate chapters. All we need are passports. We can be the first cross border / Internationally LOST chapter.
As for names, here are a few ideas to play with; LOST PNW/BC Peace Arch LOST (The US / Canada border crossing most of us would have to use to go in and out of the US) Pacific Coast LOST Left Coast LOST LOST Over the Border Rainforest LOST LOST in the Coastal Mountains |

I'm up in Prince George (8 hours from Vancouver and the boarder). I know there are a few from higher up north as well (Ft. St. John I think). If we are to incorporate BC, I would suggest "BC we're LOST" - shorthand for 'because' we're LOST and could represent British Columbia. |

| Not sure how we could put together a "BC we're LOST" group with 6 people so far. Lets face it, with the few that have responded we might only have 2 KJs on every trail run. We are going to have to work with, or merge with, Washington State and organize long distance runs. We could call the new group Traveling LOST.
It is really hard to get anybody to understand just how big each province is. BC is roughly one and a quarter times the size of Texas; BC - 364,764 square miles and Texas - 268,820 square miles. You can easily fit three to 5 states into the area of BC, only Alaska is bigger at 663,267 sq miles. Then tell people that we only have around 35 million people living in the whole of Canada... That is the entire population of the State of California which has a total land mass of 163,696 sq mi, less than half the size of BC alone and eyes start to get really big. I have no problem driving up north, I love this province. I have traveled to many differnet and interesting areas over my years of living here and I will keep doing it. Somehow we will figure something out. We should also be looking at Alaska, there have to be some from LOST up there as well. Those of us with pilot licenses may want to look at flying into airports and meeting up with other members and exploring trails with each other that way. We could take one or two passengers with us, split costs and have an adventure. Just a thought... |

There is a healthy 4x4 community here but not so specialized in KJ's. Look what happened to the Jeep Jamboree in Canada: Jeep Jamboree cancelled in Canada Dave Halliday CanWest News Service Friday, March 30, 2007 Jeep Jamboree has been cancelled after nearly a decade of successful off-road events. DaimlerChrysler ended its support of the event, held at several locations across Canada every summer. A message on the Jeep Jamboree Canada website, however, strikes a hopeful note. "We are continuing to work towards having Jamboree events in 2008," the message says. "We are seeking new sponsorship that would support the program in future years." The Jamboree website contains numerous posts from off-road enthusiasts unhappy with the cancellation but suggesting that off-roaders hold local events in 2007 or go to Jamborees in the United States. The decision to cancel the Canadian Jamborees does not affect the U.S. events. Although budget reasons were behind the cancellation of Canadian Jamborees, DaimlerChrysler officials won't say more than that. The company is in the midst of a restructuring, dealing with financial losses and laying off workers. Ron Baker of AVP, the company that operated Jeep Jamboree for DaimlerChrysler, can't provide more details about the cancellation, again pointing to budget reasons. While participants paid a fee to take part in the three-day event -- about $500 per family of four -- the corporate sponsorship from Jeep provided the remainder of the money needed to hold the Jamboree. During its nine-year Canadian history, the event attracted an enthusiastic following. "What we created was the largest off-road program in Canada," Baker said. I'm up for local or cross boarder trips but what I am really looking forward to is wheeling with fellow Liberty owners and having a good time as opposed to the local groups here who only see my Jeep as something to poke fun at. Don't worry though I've showed them when I followed their lines with no trouble and other people in "real Jeeps" had to take several runs at it  As for a name what about L.O.S.T. in the Northwest and have something like the Canadian and U.S. flags blending together in the background like you see at border crossings. Anyways I am very interested to see where this thread goes.

Agreed, I want to go out and have fun with like minded people, not have to defend my choice of Jeep to peope that want to prove themselves by making fun of others. While we do not have a lot of KJs on trails out here, the local Jeep shop over here is seeing more KJs coming in for lifts and ARB bumpers. He is starting to see more of them off road as well. I like the idea of the crossed Canadian and American flags for the logo, clean and simple. We could just add BC to the Pacific Northwest name and we are done. Maybe a quick poll for name approval? or we open a new thread for name ideas? Comments are welcome...

Good Idea, Name thread created. Check the forum. As for the logo, I dig the idea also, or maybe the BC flag with the OR and WA flags... I think lets get the name done first, then we can work on the logo. |
