Hello!

If you weren't aware, I'm the traveling CRD tech. This is the ONLY vehicle I work on and I've helped over 175 of them now. I'd be happy to discuss working on yours, just send me a message and we can go from there.

I offer three primary services, and each successive level includes everything from the one before - because the labor completely overlaps. The prices do not stack, it is simply the price for the chosen level, and then travel expenses. I bring everything needed for the work, and require nothing other than the Jeep in a vaguely-level parking place. Indoor spaces are appreciated but not required.

I will say that with your location, the travel cost for a solo trip would probably make the job rather expensive... Unless there is more than one CRD on the trip. As it happens there IS a member near Seattle that has been interested in having me work on his, so there's hope.

How many miles on your CRD? Any other mods / upgrades? It may be better to consider one of the more advanced services I offer based on your mileage, ESPECIALLY if you are closing in on 200k miles / 320k KM (I think I did that conversion properly).

If you find one that has already had my Level 3 service done to it, the engine will be reliable for at least the next 200k miles. The issues and their approximate miles however, are:

100k miles or 6 years: The timing belt and water pump needs to be changed. If this cannot be PROVEN with either a sticker or receipt for parts / labor... Then it has not been done. MANY people sell or trade the vehicle rather than pay for this service, which is why it must be PROVEN to be trusted that it has been done. Not doing it risks the rocker arms (designed failure point) and that raises the repair cost. Unlike a VW, the head is not damaged when the timing jumps or the belt breaks. This is my "Level 1" service.

130k-150k: Factory head bolts weaken and allow a head gasket leak to develop. The first indication of this issue is frequent "low coolant" alarms. ARP studs are a cure, but must be installed BEFORE the leak presents itself. A simple test can show whether the leak is happening. This is my "Level 2" service and includes level 1.

~200k, but could be anywhere from 150k and above (more common above 200k) is exhaust valve failure. This WILL result in severe engine damage and CANNOT be accurately predicted. There is no warning for when this will happen. The valves reach a fatigue wear point around 300 billion cycles and the alloy in the stem fractures in an instant, dropping the valve into the cylinder. The head and piston are destroyed and MAY jam the piston sideways in the sleeve. IF the piston and sleeve are not jammed, the engine IS rebuildable. But it is much better to prevent rather than let this happen. This is my "Level 3" service and includes everything from 1 and 2 and a lot more.

Since the messaging from the board has been buggy for several years now, I suggest emailing me directly at jeep [AT] maincomputer [DOT] com and we can go from there. I'd be happy to work on your CRD!
