2006 Liberty. I wanted to move it forward about a foot on my driveway. I turned key to on position but did not start the engine. With my foot on the brake, I moved shift lever from Park to Neutral. Took my foot off the brake and vehicle moved forward about a foot on my sloping driveway. I pressed the brake and it stopped. When I attempted to move shift lever back to Park, it would not go past the Reverse position. Will operate in all positions except Park. The only thing it will not do is move into Park. Now when I a to the end of a trip, I just move into Neutral and set the Hand Brake. Any thoughts on how to get into Park?

Maybe the interlock cable between the gearshift lever and the key. You can disconnect it by removing the steering column cover,(2 torx screws). Look underneath on the right side and you should see the cable. Release clip is hidden on top... then slide toward front of jeep to remove end from ignition switch. If that doesn't allow the shift lever into park then the damage is on the other end of the cable under the console.

Hope that helps.
