Post subject: | Rusty's Exhaust Question |
I bought Rusty's Flowmaster series 40 exhaust and took it to my mechanic to install. He told me it's missing a part and he'll need to fabricate a pipe which he'll need to weld on. It's between the end of the muffler and the stock pipe. Anyone run into this problem? ![]() ![]() |

Yes it happened to me too, it is a real simple fix he just has to weld in about 6" of pipe. |

I wonder why Rusty's doesn't supply the extra pipe? |

so, this blows! I was hoping that it was easy bolt on clamp off installation.. I guess not! Following is the installation instructions, and notice the hint of "taking it to the shop".. Quote: Taking off the old muffler
Fist, you need to take off the old muffler. This swap is fairly simple if you have a good socket set and a set of torches. If you don't have a torch, you can take it to a muffler shop and let them take the old one off. Then you can either pay them to put on the new one or just do it yourself. Either way you decide to do the work, the rest of these instructions will help out. Follow these steps: 1. Remove clamp between muffler and catalitic converter. 2. Remove clamp at end of tailpipe, it's the hanging one close to the gas tank. 3. Remove the entire hanger from rubber mount, and flip it around so that it points toward the front instead of the rear like before. 4. Install the new muffler and tighten the clamp. Make sure to get the muffler square. 5. Install the tailpipe into the muffler and clamp the tailpipe to the rubber hanger. Make sure to get it square at the crome tip at the end. 6. Now all that's left is to tighten down all the clamps. Alright, get in and fire it up! Listen to that baby purrr! |

I just got it installed yesterday. The mechanic welded all the pieces together. It sounds awesome and it's not annoying while cruising at highway speeds. It's just a bit louder than the 50 series. |

Since you are in L.I. please tell me where is that mech, and I will drive there. Hell, I will drive to you to hear that baby growl.. ![]() ![]() To those others, YES, it is that difficult find a good mechanic (or even someone you can classify as a mechanic) in NY area without getting ripped off, or poor job.. |

Loud wouldn't bother me as much as the tone/deepness of the sound. I just don't want a high-pitched Japanese vehicle like tone that I've heard others describe with a few other exhausts/mufflers. How do you like the tone? |

I heard a subaru yesterday, sounded like dog whistle.. WTF. and no that wasn't the turbo This is what I had posted previously. snip: ---------8<----------------------- here is the sound of Delta Flowmaster Delta 40 on an old benz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v51dmLAS9-k here is another one on a truck http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zcLn78bIeA Pitch of the roar, all depends on the pipes I think, because for some reason a previous member's post here sounds so much higher pitched and not as consistent, again I am sure that is the pipe.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MINLeOCAXn4 |

The tone is very deep. I had my neighbor yesterday complimenting me on the sound. He said it sounds like a camaro; he never heard a jeep sound like that before. hyedipin, I live in Franklin Square but I took it to the shop right in front of my job in Northport. He charged me $100 for the install. |

Franklin Square? I am right on Mineola blvd!! $100 for the install is pretty steep, I had mianeke quote me $75 for it, and I thought that was expensive. with $250 on the rusties, we are almost at magna cat back cost.... ![]() This weekend I am going to Midas (they are supposed to be able to order and instal flowmasters) and get a good quote. |

Yeah, I know it's a rip but I don't have too much free time so I just drop it off when I'm at work so it's convenient for me. Mineola! We're neighbors. |

They are in the NYC area. You can't get anything for $10 there. Very expensive area. |
