It's usually a good idea to reset the ECU after changes. Some of the adaptives get programmed over the first 50 warmup cycles. You'll end up with better results, but it will run rich and sluggish at first. If you want to really get the best results with upgrading the performance, you should get the B&G performance flash. With the stock programming, torque management kicks in at certain rpms when enough power is generated. This causes it to retard the timing and richen the mix, thus negating your performance gains. The flash will also advance your timing, and change your fuel curve giving a nice benefit by itself. I was on their site the other day and it was $350 instead of the old price of $450. |

You don't have to reset the ECU. You only need to reset it when making large changes, or if you want to reprogram some of the adaptives because of a driver change, or a change in driving style. |

The directions on my K&N FIPK II instructed me to remove the negative battery terminal prior to commencing the install. This effectively removes power to the ECU as I believe the battery backup only lasts about a half-hour. Essentially you're resetting the ECU once you plug it in, so when you start the motor with the intake mod completed, the ECU can automatically adjust itself to the influx of air, thereby assuring the proper fuel/air ratio on the first start. |

Same here. Had to disconnect the battery to install the K&N intake. As long as there's no check engine light going on you're ok. |
