On the way to work Wed morning and my engine light went on. Took it to my mechanic that afternoon and he hooked it up to the scanner and a transmission code came on. The light stayed on only for 2 days and since then has been off. I took off the Jet chip today and taking it to the dealer Mon morning. Not sure if the dealer would give me excuses so playing it safe. I only have 46K miles on the '05 Libby. I doubt it's the chip since I had it on for a while. I never changed the tranny oil; not sure if that's the case. I have noticed when going to and from work, once getting off the highway the jeep feels very sluggish. It's really bad when taking off from a light. Anyone have this trouble before?

Well, took it to the dealer (Bayside Chrysler) and they ripped me off. They said warranty isn't covering this because someone else worked on the car before. They said someone previously took off the tranny pan and replaced it with a non Jeep gasket. THIS IS TOTALLY NOT TRUE!!! :x They pulled a fast one! I had to pay $144 out of pocket for them to replace the gasket. I'm never going back to that dealer again!!! I told them I never had anyone work on the tranny before but they didn't want to hear it.

What was wrong with the tranny? What code did they pull? If you've never had your tranny serviced then the only gasket on there would be what came from the factory. Did you authorize them to remove the tranny pan? What do they mean by non Jeep gasket? Only thing I could think of is someone either put the wrong gasket on (which is stupid since it's obvious) or someone put the rtv on wrong.

A tranny code (hot temp) came on due to not enough fluid being in there. I never had the tranny serviced before, this is why this dealership is pulling a scam. The original gasket blew which needed to be replaced and in turn fluid was leaking.

did you buy it used? Make sure they didn't use RTV instead of an actual gasket. if they did, take it back and rip them a new rectum

Did your tranny temp light ever come on? Did you ever notice fluid under your KJ? (this could be hard because of the massive condensation from the AC and not everyone parks in the same spot all the time)

I agree with ThunderbirdJunkie, a gasket is better in this case than rtv.

The engine light did come on for 2 days only. I took it first to my mechanic just to check what the light was for and he hooked it up to the scanner and a hot temp tranny code did come up. That's when I decided to take in into the dealer. Before I took it I checked the fluid level and it was bone dry. I had it in a driveway when I noticed a fresh drip and took a look under and noticed the entire pan was wet which meant there was a tranny leak. I bought the Jeep brand new from that same dealer which was why I decided to take it back to them. I never had any transmission work done to my vehicle in the past. That same day I put a call into Chrysler and made a formal complaint against the dealership. The customer service rep did tell me the dealers are independently owned and I can have them stop work to take it somewhere else for a 2nd opinion but by that time it was too late and they were already done.

i would have never paid them a cent and made a big scene infront of the customers showing how outraged you are. like "oh so your calling your customer a liar now?!"

Seriously, they are bascially calling you a liar to your face and they know your jeep better then you do, i would have wrote an editorial to the newspaper, they would hate that.

But i dont know why you left your tranny anyways, i see you done all your axles and engine oils so why did you leave the transmission.

The manual says the tranny fluid doesn't need to be changed for the life of the vehicle unless water gets into it. My mechanic even checked the tranny fluid when he changed the diff oil and said it's totally fine.

Had mine done just past 30k and had no problems with it so far. The only time my trans temp light came on was after 8hrs of stop and go traffic on the highway then trying to drive up a steep hill. Gotta love cali traffic.

what is the part number for the gasket for the pan? I am about to have mine done and would like to have the best seal possible. It's not being done by a dealership so I assume I can bring them any gasket I'd choose and not use the liquid seal. So, does anyone have that part number? much appreciated in advance. Sorry to hear your dealer woes...I almost can't stand the stealership mentality anymore. Even when it goes in for a recall, I'm scared to death they are going to tweak something else with the thought, "just a little tweak here or there and this guy will be back soon for another fix!!" Sad, but its how I feel. Can't trust em as far as I can throw em.

Mine had RTV from the factory. I usually always use RTV on trannies and Ive never had a problem.

They cannot deny warranty if the tranny pan has been dropped, no matter who did it. They must prove that dropping the pan did in fact cause a problem.

If the tranny light came on due to the tranny fluid being low, it would go into something called limp mode. Which limits it to 1st gear to protect itself.

Well everyone...here's an update. I brought my jeep into another dealership; Town & Country in Levittown, NY; because it wasn't running right. Felt like the tranny was slipping and I was not going to bring it back to the previous dealer. They ended up putting in a brand new transfer case and new transmission because both went. Both 100% covered under warranty because I'm still covered under the 70K factory warranty. This dealership did not even try to rip me off in any way. Very happy now. :D

I suggest you file a complaint with DC with that original dealership that ripped you off...while they are all independent dealers, at least have them on file with DC as a scrupulous dealership denying warranty work that is legite!!! glad you got what you deserved from an honest dealership...did I just say honest and dealership in the same sentence?? LOL

I already did put in a formal complaint against the original dealership. I will call Chrysler again to let them know that the 2nd dealership did honor the factory warranty.

The transmission pan does not use a gasket. It's sealed with RTV.
