I havent seen any front reciever hitches or brush guards up close on a liberty yet... so I dont know much about them.

My issue... I am building a light to medium off road liberty. which will also function as a show truck in the summer. I need a front which system, but it also has to look respectiable too. The bull bar is very nice, but also very heavy and expensive. My idea is this...

option #1: A brush guard that is strong enough and mounts to strong locations that will also hold a winch.

Option #2: more trail ready... front reciever and a removable winch to go on front and back. But I really dont want an ugly reciever hitch poking out of my front bumper.

option #3 Front hidden hitch and a brush guard to hide it. (best option)

Now I am not sure where the mounting points are for each piece, so I dont know if it is possible.

let me know what you all think.

pics of a front hitch and a common brush guard would be very helpfull.

thanks
mike

well.. no road kill in this thread ok :) *joking*

but i have a front brush guard and it mounts right where the tow hooks go.. i just bought the drawhitch front receiver that you have to remove the front bumper face to install. whenever it wrams up around here I am going to install it and then see if I can put my brush guard back on somehow.. if possible in the same location depending on how the receiver installed but if not i was thinking of getting machine shop to make some custom mount. we shall see.. i know the brush guards that are out there are not capable of handling a winch thats why i got the receiver.. if there was such a thing it would be heavy like you say like the ARB front bumper..

here is a pic of the brush guard that i got.. it just bolts on..

good luck.. i have seen pics of your jeep and it looks nice. black/white thing going on.. if u figure anything out post.

Wondering how your experiment with the front receiver hitch & brush guard re-install is doing. I've been thinking of trying the same thing & would like to know how it works out. Don't understand why no one makes brush guard/winch mount for the Liberty. I've seen them for other vehicles.

It's a one or other proposition. You can't have a reciever hitch and a brush guard. Same mounting points and there is no room behind the bumper to do anything custom. This was one of my first questions before I got my Liberty.

I have the brush gaurd as in the top photo except mine is Stainless steel. I will tell you now you will have to modify it any way you go. I added the tow hooks back on to mine and I had a pro welder do it for me. They work/look great! I will be putting a front hitch on soon and will be going back to the same master welder to get it done. Just make sure he's good before you start. It's a tricky process but it's worth it. Good luck.

Hmmm, I wonder if it would be possible to modify the brush guard to fit a front receiver? Maybe weld another tube across the bottom and fit a piece of 2x2 tube to it to fit in the hitch. don't know how you'd need to modify the existing mount points but I figured I'd throw it out for consideration. Then you'd have the brush guard for show or on the trail, but you could remove it if you need to mount the winch.

May be a lame idea, but it's late and I've been up way long today...
