My only concern is the crush factor from using a clamp over the aluminum vent hose. You might crush the "thin" walled version. I made a custom intake for my HHR when I had it, and had problems with the thin wall being a little brittle. But that intake was actually holding up the weight of a large cone filter. This one has little to no load, so maybe it would be OK. Only one way to see I guess. I will build one up and see...

I know I've seen someone else on here do this but I recently fabbed up an intake using pvc, I'm putting a 2-3" adapter on the front because i now know i have the room to fit it. The 2" works great but adding that adapter will act like a funnel and force air through the tube. That along with my K&N drop in... can't be beat.

I have a busy weekend, but I promise I'll get a part list and pictures on here. it fits perfectly and kicks stupid and best of all... it costs less than $10 to make (not including k&n)

I’m okay with the thicker walled intake funnel. And I’m okay with the price. Most likely, I would route the 3” house into the side of my factory airbox. Therefore, I would keep my factory air inlet and add your “custom” intake funnel as an extra air inlet. What do you think? I would only need the $35.00 intake funnel for my purposes.

Same here. I would only want the intake funnel so I dont mind a bit to pay $35. Ill probably use some 3"PVC pipe to go into the air box and make it so I can put a cap on the pvc pipe if it need be.

I am, however, a little worried about a really hard rain filling the air box up with water. I know that is a problem on the CRD's. Guess I could drill the holes a little bigger in the bottom of the air box to make sure that it can drain really good.

The CRD guys were primarily complaining about their factory “paper” air filter getting saturated. This is why I addressed the issue in the above post about using an AMSOIL air filter because they do not absorb water, hold water, nor do they let water pass through the filter. Amsoil filters are made to endure the outside elements when being exposed. If I was a CRD guy, I would do the 3.7 air box and the “TEXAN” custom air intake. More cold air = more oxygen = more power = better fuel economy. :D

I'll Jump in here again, one piece of advice i do want to throw in here.... if your going to do something do it right the first time. The .60 wall might work but since this is your party Texan... if you feel it could be crushed, then i think the extra couple bucks will be worth it in the long run. It's the same thing where people dump money into daystar lifts when they plan on getting OME eventually.... just save the money up and do it right the first time, it'll cost less in the long run.

Anyhow that's my .02 rave for the night....sorry. And put me down for the full set, $75 plus shipping (to 59412). Let me know what the outcome is. And guys thanks for all the assistance on this thread. As I get more money and dreams i'm sure more questions will come along as well

Perfectly said……………Too many people want something for cheap and then they complain about the results later. That’s the problem with many Americans, we are spoiled and we want everything now! BE PATIENT, WORK HARD, SAVE YOUR MONEY, and BE RESPONSIBLE………………LOL, I’m on my soap box, but tumanator I think we are in the minority who think this way………………

people that are worried about moisture problems should not be concerned, I have been running a 3 inch dryer vent hose (plastic with wire inside) from the grill right back into the airbox for 8 or 10 months now through all kinds of weather and not one problem. I do have the Amsoil filter but no water back in there to hurt anything. One rain storm had a little moisture but no real standing water

According to the PM that I received the other day, TEXAN is currently working on them and hoping to have them finished by the end of next week. :D

Well, I had to re-do the CAD version of the 2 pieces. The laptop that I did the original design on crashed. So I have re-done the CAD, but I need to print one of each to fit-check before I go taking real orders. I don't want to send adapters and funnels out to all of you and then find out that they don't fit right. I wasn't able to use the 3D printer this week. Someone else was using it for real work-related stuff. It should be idle next week, so I can test a few until I get it just right.

I will post an update middle of next week to let you all know where we are...

You need to tell them to stop working so much! Youve got stuff to get done!

Just kidding. Thanks for the update. :)

Considering I've been running my hood for years without a problem, I don't think you guys have anything to worry about when it comes to moisture unless you're going through some deep water.

I must say I am impressed with your design. Great job. 8)

Update. I had problems with the 3D printer this week. It crashed 3 times when building the test parts. But, I did get the airbox adapter finished. However, I am printing the grill intake scoop this weekend. Hope to have it done on Monday. Then I can take actual orders for the 05-07 models. I need some pics and measurements of the 02-04 models to see what differs.

I found out why the 3D printer isn't working right. It has a couple of guide bearings that are worn and loose. Should get it fixed right after new year so I can get back to building.
