long_tall_texan, this is the part that I want! Very impressive! I think your custom part would funnel “more” air into the hose and look nicer than a Shop-Vac adaptor. I would keep the factory air inlet and run the additional "custom" inlet into the side of the factory box. You did an excellent job, put me down for the inlet plastic part.

Wonder if it will fit on a pre-05 like that?

Ill still buy one even if it wont fit as good as that. Ill make it work.

And all I would want is the funnel for the grill.

It would be very easy for me to tweak the model for 2 versions of the intake funnel. Anyone want to take some pics and measurements of yours and maybe be the guinea pig?

I put a K&N intake on my '06 as my first engine mod... I'm SSOOO glad I did, no exesse dust or dirt ( I have 36,500 miles on my jeep 17,000 on the intake an the factory clogger um filter was dirtier then the K&N ) The butt dyno showed some improvement as well as a slight gain in MPG's.. With the gas savings an how much I drive it's already half paid for.. oh the 17,000 has come in the last 9 months so being half paid for in that time makes the money spent WELL worth it...

I would love to take some measurements but Im away from home. Currently at an apartment and Im not to excited about taking the grill off the front and all that here..

Soonest I would be able to get some good pics and such would be Dec19th+...

Its amazing how fast the intake air temp goes up when in traffic so Im really interested in this thing(based on price). Once I get on the hw the intake temp is always 2-4F above the air temp which is pretty good.

No. It is 3" aluminum vent hose from Home Depot.

I'm doing some work on the jeep this week. I can probably get you some measurements and pics. What's the danger of sucking water with this setup?

Not until you reminded me. But I just calculated it up. The ones that I built for myself were .090" wall thickness and very strong/sturdy. When I calculated the cost of the pieces at .090" wall thickness, they came out to cost:
Airbox adapter: $40
Intake Funnel: $35
So that makes for $75 + shipping for a set. That seems kind of expensive, but I know those are strong.

Now if I change it to a .060 wall thickness, they came out to cost:
Airbox adapter: $30
Intake Funnel: $25
So that makes for $55 + shipping for a set. That seems like a better price, but I am not sure how well the thinner wall section will hold up.

What do y'all think about the pricing? Is it worth the extra $20 to have a good, tough, thick one, or should I try the thinner wall section and see how they turn out?

I’m okay with the thicker walled intake funnel. And I’m okay with the price. Most likely, I would route the 3” house into the side of my factory airbox. Therefore, I would keep my factory air inlet and add your “custom” intake funnel as an extra air inlet. What do you think? I would only need the $35.00 intake funnel for my purposes.

I have some good news for those of you who are concerned about moisture entering into the factory air box. The Amsoil air filter is made from a material that “WILL NOT” hold moisture. 8) The Amsoil technology “WILL NOT” allow moisture to flow through the air filter. 8) This air intake modification does work. I have something very similiar to what "TEXAN" has customized. The only difference is that my set-up is not as clean looking as his. I would say that this "type" of cold air intake has improved my highway fuel mileage with an average of 1 mpg. Hands down, this is the “best” air-intake system that I have seen for the gas or CRD engines. :D

The .06 wall should hold up well enough. Its not like its holding the engine up
