| Post subject: | Engine Fan |
My 05 has 2 engine fans, an electric fan mounted on the radiator, and an engine driven fan I dont know if all libertys have both, or just the ones with the tow package. anyway, I was wondering if the electric fan cuts on by temp or if it comes on with the A/C and defrost. My point is, if it comes on by temp, Im going to drop the engine driven fan for obvious hp and mpg gains. |

My 2002 4x4 Sport does not have an engine driven fan. My electric fan is turned on by the thermostat. I run fine without an engine fan and I have towed a 8000 pound 3/4 ton 6.5 liter diesel Chevy Suburban 4x4 at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. I am not making any suggestions here but you may be safe without it... |

wow, how the heck you towed that i will never know. Hey KJRenny, if you do take that off and want to sell it, send me a pm. Im not sure on how it mounts of if i would need a new pully. As long as you send all the bolts and the clutch with it. Throw me a price if you want to sell it. |

Only those that came with the tow package got both the Viscus (engine driven) fan and the electric.....the rest w/o only got the electric. On mine, since I don't have the tow package, my elec. fan kicks on when it gets to a certain temp, I turn the A/C or Defroster on....and first thing in the morning when I first fire it up. |

Yea, I'm trying to pull off my engine driven fan, but no parts stores have the wrench set that takes it off... they only have "universal" kits which wont work, so I will be makking a set of wrenches tomorrow out of some old craftsmen wrenches. I have to free up a few HP, my new 245/75 tires are dragging down my poor engine on backroads and highways. |

One correction. My 2005 Rennie has that fan, and I did not get the Tow Package, instead I have the Off-Road Package that also comes with the Heavy Duty Engine Cooling (w/ the engine driven fan). |

If you wheel I'd keep it! Your radiator has a tranny cooler built into it as well and the electric fan doesn't kick in when the transmission gets hot. Not to mention that the electric fan has a tendency to give up the ghost after water crossings. |

I removed the fan and have felt no power gain and have seen absolutly no change in fuel economy. |
