Post subject:  Rear Differential Howling

I have some howling coming from my rear differential that gets louder when accelerating/decelerating. After twisting the dealerships arm they have agreed to perform the repair under the power train warranty (only because I am a "good" customer having bought 2 jeeps in the last 6 years), but they claim the root cause of the problem is the modifications made to the vehicle, specifically the 2.5" lift.

Has anyone else had any rear diff issues?, or has anyone heard of having rear diff issues as a result of only a 2.5" lift?, personally I am not buying their story.

You already posted this in the 4x4 section.

Actually I had posted it in this section first with out realizing it was the 4X2 section.

Thanks for your answer though, I hadn't heard of any rear diff issues caused by a 2.5" lift, but I figured this was the best site to ask before I get in a battle with the dealership.

I have a tiny bit of drivetrain vibration while accelerating, pretty much from 48 mph to 52 mph (indicated), and that's it.

a 2.5" lift in a KJ will not cause the rear axle to die...unless, in an extreme case, it's a pinion bearing
